Job Description
The Senior Engineering Project Controller is responsible for overseeing engineering projects, acting as a primary liaison with clients, managing project costs and schedules, and ensuring compliance with financial and contractual requirements. This role supports the accounting team with financial reporting, including indirect labor costing and budget management, and ensures successful execution of both government and commercial engineering projects. The ideal candidate possesses strong financial acumen, project management expertise, and the ability to coordinate cross-functional teams of engineers while ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and in compliance with contract terms.
ResponsibilitiesOversee the execution of engineering projects from initiation to completion, ensuring alignment with client requirements and business objectives.Act as the primary liaison between engineering teams, clients, subcontractors, and stakeholders.Manage project timelines, milestones, and deliverables to ensure on-time completion.Identify and mitigate project risks, ensuring continuous alignment with scope, budget, and performance metrics.Develop and monitor project budgets, track expenditures, and ensure cost-effective resource allocation.Prepare financial reports, analyze indirect labor costs, and ensure compliance with FAR (Federal Acquisition Regulation) and other government regulations.Support cost accounting and reporting for both government and non-government engineering projects.Assist in pricing strategies, financial forecasting, and variance analysis to optimize profitability and operational efficiency.Ensure compliance with government contract requirements, including cost structures, billing, and financial audits.Essential Skills5+ years in program management, finance, or project control within an engineering or government contracting environment.Experience managing government contracts (FAR, DCAA compliance) and commercial engineering projects.Knowledge of indirect labor costing, financial planning, and contract compliance.Proficiency in financial modeling, budgeting, and cost tracking tools (e.g., Deltek Costpoint, Unanet, Microsoft Project).Strong understanding of Earned Value Management (EVM) and project cost control methodologies.Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field (Master’s preferred).Additional Skills & QualificationsExcellent communication and negotiation skills.Strong leadership and team collaboration abilities.Analytical mindset with the ability to make data-driven decisions.PMP (Project Management Professional) or PMP (Program Management Professional) certification (preferred).CMA (Certified Management Accountant) or CPA (Certified Public Accountant) certification (a plus for financial-heavy roles).Lean Six Sigma or process improvement certifications (a plus).Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $65.00 - $90.00/hr.
