Senior Project Manager (Electrical, Commercial)

SUMMARY

The Sr. Project Manager with Contra Costa Electric requires extensive experience leading multi-million dollar electrical Industry projects in both the public and private sector. The Sr. Project Manager is responsible for leading, planning, coordinating, and directing construction projects to meet the profit and growth objectives. This position requires a solid understanding of project contracts, project scheduling, cost accounting and budgeting, client management and safety. This individual must have the ability to lead project teams in their relationships with other subcontractors and to resolve problems as they arise. The Sr. Project Manager maintains full financial responsibilities of the project and must understand construction financial and accounting practices. This position requires outstanding communication and customer service skills as part of our business dealing with our clients and internally with other employees.

They will manage these projects in a manner that exceeds our customers' expectations and ensures that our work meets all company performance goals and safety policy requirements.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Project Management:

The Sr. Project Manager is responsible for leading all aspects of the project activities for the projects assigned in accordance with project contract documents, budgets, schedules, quality control and company objectives. Ensures adherence to project budget. Reports any potential risks or discrepancies to the Division Manager and Sr Management as appropriate. Leads in developing and supporting the implementation of jobsite security, quality control, and safety programs for each project with the support of the Superintendent, Safety and QC departments. Ensures accurate and timely project documentation, including but not limited to, RFI's submittals, schedule updates, time records, supplemental work orders, change order pricing, and general project correspondence. Assumes responsibility for the master scheduling process including upfront collaboration with all stakeholders (Superintendent, Subcontractors, etc.) and integrating man loading schedules, milestone schedules, and contract schedules.  Collaborate with Superintendent and field team to ensure projects are completed on schedule.  Establishes, maintains, and tracks performance standards for all work performed on assigned project. Conducts on-site observations of work during construction to monitor compliance with safety, quality control, sustainability measures and overall project status. Adheres to the Company uniform project management procedures and cost accounting standards. Collaborate with Project Controls to prepare, approve and submit project budgets. Formulate and manage revenue and profit projections for the Division Manager. Accountable for the cash flow of assigned project, including customer pay applications and payment status, subcontractor/consultant invoicing and payments through collaboration with the Project Team. Provide technical advice to both clients and employees as needed. Review estimates and proposal scope letters. Participate in bid review process as required. Review RFQ/RFP documents for the solicitation of subcontractors and vendors. Identify and manage potential projects risks and issues. Develop and execute recovery action plans including mitigation plans for claim avoidance. Enforce compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, safety standards/codes, and contracts (Building and environmental regulations). Report all variances to the Division Manager. The duties and responsibilities are intended to describe the general nature and scope of work being performed by this position. Lead the project team to maintain a clear perspective and focus on the project outcome; Provide performance and development feedback for Project Team Manage and coach people to be capable of carrying out initiatives and to improve overall performance.  Help develop operational training programs and provide ongoing coaching to ensure conformity with training objectives.  Under the guidance of the Division Manager, participate in the creation and maintenance of a positive team spirit among the members of the Project Management Team. Mentor team members and support succession with the goal of identifying talented personnel and promoting their continued personal and professional education and professional growth. 

Innovation, Continuous Improvement and Business Development:

Effects change by modeling and reinforcing a continuous improvement culture establishes operational initiatives to improve the delivery of the project in all areas such as design, schedule, quality, cost, safety and delivery methods; delivers project results with an emphasis in client satisfaction, project schedules, budgets and margins.  Drives operating performance through process improvement and project management; identifies and recognizes the need for additional products and service offerings that align with the customer’s needs and provides creative solutions; monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of the operational plans and adjusts accordingly; provides leadership for problem resolution to facilitate faster improvement and improved working relationships; measures the effectiveness of all internal and external process providing continuous feedback for improving processes.  Assist with business development by sourcing and qualifying new opportunities and strategic partnering with key client accounts.  Act as key point of contact with customers and end-user owners. Develop and manage positive stakeholder relationships with project teams, customers, and subcontractors. 

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Electrical Engineering, or other related discipline preferred.  Minimum 15 years of progressive PM responsibilities (including management of project Teams), preferably in electrical construction. Knowledge of construction technology, scheduling, equipment, means and methods required.  Minimum of 8 years OSHPD, Design Build with Electrical and Low Voltage scope (including Big Room. co-location), union contractor, responsible for electrical contracts in excess of $60M, Lean project delivery methodology (including IFOA) Proven experience of successfully mentoring and managing a project management team, not just a crew Can be a combination of education, training and relevant experience  PE license and Professional Certifications a plus 

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

Strong management and leadership skills along with a passion for developing employees are required for success in this role.  Strong ability to influence and drive positive outcomes.  Knowledge of complex project plans, drawing specifications and schedule as well as the resources necessary to complete the project on time and within budget Possess a high level of expertise in all phases of electrical and low voltage design and construction. Thorough knowledge of the estimating, project cost accounting, scheduling, procurement, productivity tracking, and reporting principles necessary to profitably complete electrical construction projects.  Experience with union workforces, labor rate calculations, and collective bargaining agreements preferred.  Highly proficient in MS Word, Excel, and Project. Experience with Accubid Classic or Enterprise preferred.
