We are looking for a smart the Mechanical Resident Engineer is responsible he oversights and coordination of all mechanical engineering aspects of data center construction. The role includes ensuring that all mechanical systems (HVAC, piping, plumbing, fire suppression, etc.) are installed according to design specifications, comply with regulatory standards, and meet operational requirements for a modern data center facility. The engineer will work closely with contractors, consultants, and project teams to ensure timely and cost-effective completion of the mechanical portions of the project. The Mechanical Resident Engineer (RE) must:
Ensuring the mechanical systems in a data center are installed and constructed in accordance to the specified standards and regulations.
This role involves a high level of technical expertise and attention to detail, given the critical nature of data centers in modern business operations.
Conduct regular site inspections to verify that construction activities align with Mechanical plans, specification and industry standards.
Identify and report any deviations or non-conformances in Mechanical works, and work with contractors to implement corrective measures.
Compliance: Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal health, safety, and environmental regulations, as well as company standards and policies.
Risk Assessment: Conduct regular risk assessments and job hazard analyses to identify potential hazards and implement appropriate control measures.
Inspections and Audits: Conduct regular site inspections and audits to monitor compliance with Mechanical standards. Identify areas for improvement and implement corrective actions.
Reporting: Prepare and submit regular inspection reports, including SOR reports, audit findings, and compliance metrics, to senior management and client bodies.
Mechanical Specification: The Mechanical resident Engineer must be well versed with the local and federal Mechanical guideline and specification. RE should be able to advise the contractor and correct the contractor on Mechanical guideline and specification.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES
1.1 Project Oversight
Supervise and monitor mechanical construction activities to ensure compliance with project specifications, industry standards, and regulatory codes.
Coordinate with contractors, design consultants, and construction managers to address any mechanical engineering-related issues.
Conduct regular site inspections to ensure high-quality workmanship and adherence to project plans.
1.2 Technical Expertise
Provide on-site technical support and guidance to contractors and construction teams during the installation and testing phases.
Review and approve mechanical design drawings, shop drawings, and material submittals to ensure they meet project requirements.
Conduct regular inspections and audits of mechanical systems to verify compliance with safety standards and local regulations.
Review mechanical design drawings, specifications, and technical submittals to ensure they meet project requirements.
Collaborate with design engineers to resolve any discrepancies or design-related concerns during the construction phase.
Ensure compliance with relevant local, national, and international codes and standards, including ASHRAE, NFPA, and others applicable to data center construction.
Oversee the installation, testing, and commissioning of HVAC, cooling systems, CRAC/CRAH units, piping, plumbing, and fire suppression systems.
Provide technical guidance and support on mechanical issues that may arise during construction.
Verify that all mechanical systems are installed and functioning according to the intended design, particularly in terms of redundancy, cooling loads, and energy efficiency.
Deep understanding of data center infrastructure, including HVAC, power systems, and redundancy configurations (N+1, 2N).
Familiarity with international data center standards (e.g., Uptime Institute Tier Standards, TIA-942).
1.3 Coordination and Communication
Collaborate closely with other engineering disciplines, project managers, and stakeholders to ensure integrated project execution.
Act as the primary point of contact for all mechanical-related matters on-site, facilitating effective communication between the client, contractors, and consultants.
Participate in project meetings, providing updates on mechanical works and addressing any technical challenges.
1.4 Quality Assurance and Compliance
Ensure that all mechanical installations comply with Malaysian mechanical codes, standards, and safety regulations.
Identify and address any non-compliance issues, ensuring that corrective actions are implemented promptly.
Oversee testing and commissioning activities, ensuring that all systems are fully operational and meet performance requirements.
1.5 Documentation and Reporting:
Maintain accurate records of all mechanical works, including daily reports, inspection records, and test results.
Prepare detailed reports on project progress, highlighting any issues or concerns related to mechanical systems.
Assist in the preparation of as-built documentation and ensure a smooth handover of mechanical systems to the operations team.
1.6 Testing and Commissioning:
Oversee the testing and commissioning of mechanical systems to ensure they meet performance and reliability standards.
Verify the correct operation of mechanical systems, including backup power systems, before the handover to the client.
Participate in the final acceptance testing and ensure that all punch list items are completed.
1.7 Documentation and Reporting
Maintain detailed documentation of construction activities, changes, and issues related to mechanical engineering.
Prepare progress reports for internal stakeholders and clients, highlighting key milestones, challenges, and solutions.
Assist in preparing punch lists and ensuring timely closeout of mechanical systems.

Work with project team and support project team to be cohesive and facilitate a team culture.
Full-time position, based on the construction site.
May require working extended hours, including weekends and public holidays, depending on the project schedule.
The role involves exposure to construction site environments, including noise, dust, and varying weather conditions.

Keep team member involved and informed; provide feedback, coaching & mentoring for team(s) with regards to scheduling.
Resolve difficult personnel situations directly, using appropriate discretion, Project Director and HR advice and respect for the individual.
2.2 - Business Specific:
Support Cushman & Wakefield submissions as a Subject Matter Expert (SME).
Assist with business improvement and innovation initiatives.
Work with Alternate Assets Lead to support other regions.

Effectively communicates Mechanical specification, drawings, and expectations to all project personnel.
Takes initiative to identify potential Mechanical issues and proactively addresses them.
