Linx specializes in underwriting industry-specific and product-specific solutions which are tailored for the needs of the Canadian market and our brokers. Linx Underwriting Solutions Inc acts as Managing General Agent (MGA) for domestic carriers and Lloyd’s syndicates and is authorized to transact insurance business under Delegated Authorities. As part of an industry-leading team, you will help empower results by delivering innovative and effective solutions. You will be underwriting a variety of commercial insurance lines of business within Linx, which includes property and/or casualty, umbrella, and some specialty lines. This role is based out of Calgary and offers hybrid working (50% of time work from office). Applicants must be legally authorized to work in Canada. This role is not eligible for sponsorship, and we are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment visa or work permit. What the day will look like Assess and evaluate complex risks, while analyzing requests for new business quotes, renewals and endorsements. Determines appropriate pricing based on financial and competitive analysis and thoroughly document thought process of risk assessment Complete underwriting referrals as required Negotiates and binds terms, conditions and premium for new and renewal accounts within individual assigned portfolio and authority level Review and analysis of claims and policy wordings Develops and maintains broker relationships Effectively manages multiple transactions, leveraging system functionalities to appropriately systems and document processing of transactions and file management Create an environment within the team that encourages inclusion and openness to ensure the plan is delivered Participates in self-development activities to improve or develop knowledge of underwriting or business-related subjects Performing other related duties as assigned How this opportunity is different We write a diverse book of business covering a wide range of clients including but not limited to: real estate, retail, manufacturing, wholesale, forestry, public entities and Indigenous services. The successful candidate will need to demonstrate a good understanding of portfolio management, excellent listening skills and the ability to communicate effectively with both brokers and our insurance partners to drive an aligned strategy to profitably grow our business. Skills and experience that will lead to success Commercial Insurance knowledge with at least seven years of Commercial Lines (P&C) underwriting experience College Diploma/University degree or equivalent experience CIP designation or designation in progress Level 1 or 2 General Agent / RIBO license or willing to obtain in 6 months Strong analytical, mathematical, decision making and negotiating skills Independent thinker and self-starter Excellent communication Organizational and time-management skills Proficient computer skills in: MS Word, Excel and Outlook Committed team player Experience working in an MGA, or with referral-based underwriting is an asset Written, and business French language is an asset How we support our colleagues In addition to our comprehensive benefits package, we encourage a diverse workforce.
