Senior Prototype Development Engineer

Ford Model E is responsible for developing the key technologies and capabilities – such as EV platforms, batteries, e-motors, inverters, charging and recycling – to create ground-up, breakthrough electric vehicles. The Prototype Development Engineer will be responsible for the bring-up and maintenance of the labcar. The engineer will be supporting activities for the prototype builds including working with technicians to plan component installation and coordinate with engineers for timing when the labcar and prototype vehicles will be available for testing . You will be the local point person for the labcar and contribute to the prototype build events. . You will be part of the team that will Conceptualize, Design, Engineer, Develop and support the launch of next generation Vehicle Platform Architectures for electric vehicles at Ford.

25%-75% Travel Required B.S. in Electrical, Mechanical, Computer or Software Engineering Strong Electrical and Embedded Systems Engineering fundamentals 5+ years of experience working on hardware design, board bring-up and hardware integration 5+ years of experience with Vehicle Network Protocols such as CAN, LIN & Automotive Ethernet Experience and working knowledge of systems development, vehicle architecture, battery technologies, software/hardware tool development, motor calibration technologies, OBD calibration, functional safety, network and diagnostics process. 3+ years of experience using embedded networking interface tools for automotive, aerospace or similar Experience with electrical debugging of PCB Assemblies, including the ability to read electrical schematics Experience writing test plans and procedures and providing go/no-go judgment

 

Preferred Qualifications:

B.S. in Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Embedded Systems Proficiency in fundamentals of vehicle architecture, embedded systems design, RTOSes and real-time networking Experience in instrumenting sensors systems and using data acquisition tools for analysis Experience in supporting product development from concept to deployment Strong written and verbal communication skills An eagerness to work cross-functionally in a dynamic environment where you are part of a high performing team A systems approach to design and development with the desire and curiosity to strive for exceptional delivery execution and continuous improvement

Support the prototype development and bring-up efforts on various test assets such as benches, labcars, and prototype vehicles. Duties include: part installation, wiring, flashing software on modules, debugging networks (CAN / LIN / Ethernet / etc…), and recording the status of the modules, labcar, and prototype vehicles. Build and report the development and integration progress & maturity for the test assets. Collaborate with the rest of the prototype development team and develop solutions to meet our needs Troubleshoot issues with the prototype test assets as well as document and help triage issues Develop test strategies and design of experiments to test full functionality of prototype test assets Interface with the rest of Systems Integration team & cross-functional teams to identify changes in later builds and support the next iteration of development  Support design reviews and demos using the prototype test assets with quick troubleshooting and creative problem solving. Support the prototype build events and fleet management duties. Travel to support prototype vehicle builds, modifications, and test asset support.
