We are seeking an Electrical Engineer to join our Instrument Development team developing the next generations of world class IDEXX diagnostic instrumentation. The successful candidate will have a background in electronic hardware and embedded system design and development.

As an Electrical Engineer at IDEXX, you will be involved in developing custom point of care instrument solutions to monitor, and control, a wide variety of critical parameters impacting animal medical diagnosis. Our instrument requirements often demand relative position of the sample medium under test and a variety of sensors (temperature, humidity, light, pressure etc.) with micron precision in multiple dimensions. You will develop design solutions that are cost effective, reliable, long-term manufacturable and serviceable, while maintaining ease of use.

What will you do?

Be a key part of product development teams providing electrical engineering support on future platform developments from concept feasibility through prototype evaluation and production release.

Develop system HW and FW design requirements for instrumentation products. Contribute as part of cross-functional teams to develop new product features and requirements.

Analyze, develop specifications, design, review, fabricate and test a variety of electronic and control-related subsystems. Participate in product validation.

Develop/recommend appropriate facilities, suppliers, components, equipment, tools and resources necessary to complete design, fabrication, implementation and testing of electro-mechanical sub-systems.

Develop schematics, layouts and BOMs for both prototype and production level electronic circuit release, evaluating design performance, DFM and cost.

Develop and refine high-level specifications into detailed FPGA architectures.

Design, simulate, and implement advanced FPGA-based systems using VHDL using timing analysis to tune synthesis and place & route to ensure optimal FPGA performance.

Coordinate assembly of system prototypes.

Develop tools and protocols for troubleshooting system behavior and measuring system performance to specifications. Test final products to specifications and ensures quality requirements are met.

Support troubleshooting and root cause investigation of hardware and system related problems and propose design change solutions. Specify, implement, and test modifications to existing hardware systems.

Develop personal engineering skill set by learning from experienced, and cross-functional peers.

What do you need to succeed?

A Bachelor's degree, plus 5-7 years of engineering experience.

Skills with mathematical and analytical techniques.

Knowledge of electrical, and electromechanical system design and related challenges.

Proficient in selection and use of appropriate electronic and analytical test equipment.

Proficient in development and execution of test protocols to analyze and verify the performance of electronic subsystems.

Proficient in analysis of test results, assessing probable failure modes and developing and executing appropriate corrective action.

Experience in design/integration of electrical, mechanical, and control systems required.

Experience in design/implementation of FPGA subsystems required

Working knowledge of FPGA Synthesis, place & route, timing Analysis tools required.

Strengths in systems analysis, design and development required.
