For this role, you will be responsible for both relay settings and studies associated with substation Protection & Control (P&C) design projects supporting large electric utility clients and renewable projects. You will primarily work on projects connecting utility-scale solar farms, battery energy storage systems (BESS), and large wind farms to the connecting utility through substations. This role involves client-facing aspects, mentoring junior engineers, and collaborating with the Engineering Manager and Principal Engineer to define project objectives and designs.

ResponsibilitiesDevelop relay protection schemes using microprocessor-based relays to protect transmission and distribution assets.Perform protective device coordination for transmission lines, buses, transformers, capacitor banks, circuit breakers, and reactors.Develop logic settings to support desired relay schemes.Perform area protective device coordination studies.Conduct transmission-level impact and feasibility studies.Perform load flow studies, short circuit studies, and arc flash studies.Prepare reports documenting the process and results of the studies performed.Review studies performed by others and provide constructive feedback.Assist clients in meeting their compliance requirements.Mentor less experienced associates to help them progress.Work with the Engineering Manager and Principal Engineer to define project objectives, prepare design estimates, and define project requirements and design approaches for large or complex projects.Act as Lead Engineer on complex studies, interfacing with clients, other engineering firms, and other departments.Conceptualize the initial design approach for a major phase of a large project or have overall responsibility for the engineering work on a routine project.Essential SkillsPower system engineeringElectrical engineeringArc flash studiesShort circuit studiesLoad flow studiesRenewable energyExperience with ETAP, ASPEN, MISO, CAISO, ERCOT, PSS/E, PSLF, SKM, CYME8+ years of experience in transmission power system protection studies and relay settingsProfessional Engineer (PE) licenseExperience supporting renewable interconnection projects (wind, solar, BESS)Excellent verbal and written communication skillsAdditional Skills & QualificationsExperience preparing reports documenting the process and results of the studies performedExperience performing reviews of studies performed by others and providing constructive feedbackExperience working with clients to assist them in meeting their compliance requirementsExperience mentoring less experienced associatesExperience defining project objectives, preparing design estimates, and defining project requirements and design approaches for large or complex projectsPay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $45.67 - $70.19
