About the Department
 

Ci3 is a research center at the University of Chicago within the Section of Complex Family Planning that seeks to address the social and structural determinants of sexual and reproductive health, including access to contraception and abortion. Our methods include qualitative and quantitative research, with a history of integrating creative approaches. Ci3 is intentional in implementing principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion both internally and in our collaborations. This at-will position is wholly or partially funded by contractual grant funding which is renewed under provisions set by the grantor of the contract. Employment will be contingent upon the continued receipt of these grant funds and satisfactory job performance.


Job Summary
 

The job participates in scientific research projects. Ensures compliance of research activities with institutional, state, and federal regulatory policies, procedures, directives and mandates. Analyzes possible solutions using standard procedures. Writes articles, reports and manuscripts. Assists in drafting presentations on research findings.

Ci3 is looking for a Senior Research Analyst who will work collaboratively with the research team and affiliated faculty to design and execute research focused on understanding and improving access to sexual and reproductive health. The Senior Research Analyst works across a range of projects, using qualitative and quantitative methods. The Senior Research Analyst leads implementation of studies, including developing IRB protocols, recruitment and scheduling of research subjects, data collection, analysis, and dissemination. Examples from our current research portfolio include studies that: explore the experiences of individuals traveling for abortion care; analyze caller data from a regional abortion fund to understand support needs; explore perspectives of providers treating pregnant patients post-Dobbs; and explore and evaluate adolescent contraceptive counseling needs and resources.

Responsibilities

Supports lead investigators in day-to-day implementation of planned studies using qualitative and quantitative methods. Has general awareness in research techniques or methods, regulatory policies and procedures, and relevant scientific field.

Supports IRB protocol development, ensures study compliance with institutional and regulatory guidelines and provides other administrative support for research projects as needed.

Supports quantitative data collection and analysis, including: drafting study instruments, cleaning, analyzing, managing, and interpreting data.

Supports qualitative data collection and analysis, including: drafting interview guides, recruiting participants, developing data collection tools, and supporting analysis.

Contributes to grant proposals and reporting. Conducts literature reviews as well as contributes to manuscript writing and editing for publication.

Applies research principles and relevant subject matter knowledge relevant to administer a research project. With a moderate level of direction, manages lab and/or research-related duties and tasks. Helps develop, design and conduct research projects according to plan.

Supports data collection and analytical needs of research projects. Conducts literature reviews and helps write reports and manuscripts. Ensures project compliance with different policies, procedures, directives, and mandates.

Takes responsibility for the following non-laboratory duties: transcribing and coding data; developing data collection instruments; presenting research; and recruiting and scheduling research subjects. Acquires higher-level skills and knowledge in the process.

Performs other related work as needed.


Minimum Qualifications
 

Education:

Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.

Preferred Qualifications

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in public policy, public health, social work, social sciences, or a relevant field.

Master’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., MPH, MPP, MA).

Experience:

Research experience, preferably in sexual and reproductive health.

Basic familiarity with quantitative analysis approaches and software (e.g. R, SPSS, Stata).

Experience managing research projects.

Background contributing to research manuscripts, reports, or publications.

Preferred Competencies

Strong interest in and commitment to sexual and reproductive health and research. Comfort talking about and researching sexual and reproductive health issues, including abortion.

Knowledge of research methods or techniques as well as regulatory policies.

Quantitative analysis skills and basic familiarity with statistical analysis software (e.g., R, SPSS, Stata) valued.

Analytical and problem-solving skills.

Prioritize and manage one’s time across multiple projects.

Attention to detail and organizational skills.

Effective verbal and written communication skills.

Work independently and as part of a team.

Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.

Working Conditions

Willing to travel locally for study activities.
