Senior Research and Development Technician, Pilot Plant

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Senior R&D Technician for our Pilot Plant. This role involves hands-on technical project execution, new product development, and activities across all JBSS private label products and categories. The ideal candidate will have technical knowledge and ownership in executing new and existing private label bars, maintaining the bars pilot plant, and coordinating various pilot plant development runs. This position also includes managing schedules, maintaining equipment and inventories, and assisting with new bar product development projects as needed.

 

Key Responsibilities:

Execute technical hands-on projects under the guidance of a lead scientist.Create new products and samples, run pilot/plant scale trials, and execute experimental designs.Order and maintain ingredients for development, ensuring the pilot plant work area is clean and sanitized.Organize tastings and create products for tasting.Coordinate within R&D and cross-functionally with teams like engineering, packaging, and operations to deliver customer requests.Implement food and people safety protocols in coordination with Quality and Safety teams.Collaborate with internal (marketing/sales) and external customers on new items and sample requests.Coordinate with external suppliers for necessary new raw materials.Work with internal resources to secure ingredients for sample making, trials, and lab needs.Integrate new products into JBSS production, working with schedulers, supervisors, operators, packaging, QA, etc.Document JBSS processes and procedures, updating and maintaining R&D records.

Qualifications:

Minimum High School degree; Bachelor’s degree in food science/technology preferred.3-5 years of experience working in a pilot plant or manufacturing environment, ideally on a bar line.Experience in cleaning and maintaining pilot plant equipment.Experience with Product Vision software is highly desirable.Demonstrated organizational and coordination skills.Strong written communication skills.Proven ability to operate independently and manage daily schedules of the pilot plant.Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).Solid project management skills with a track record of successfully leading projects.Ability to maintain a neat and organized work area.
