About the Department
The Section of Biomedical Informatics is committed to creating a patient-centric healthcare and research ecosystem where technology integrates with compassionate, family-centered care and rigorous scientific pursuit. By leveraging state-of-the-art informatics tools and methodologies, the Section aims to unlock new insights into pediatric diseases, accelerate research breakthroughs, and enhance clinical decision-making processes.
This position is wholly funded by contractual grant funding which is renewed under provisions set by the grantor of the contract. Employment will be contingent upon the continued receipt of these grant funds and satisfactory job performance.

Responsibilities
Hires, trains, and coordinates annotators to mark relations between biological entities in sentences from full-text papers.
Creates training documentation.
Manages lab personnel expenses.
Uses specialized depth and breadth of expertise to lead and conduct research experiments.
Interprets and collects data and trains others in the interpretation of data. Leads the dissemination of data and significantly contributes to scientific publications and grant writing.
Leads others to solve complex problems, providing expertise to the team which includes scientists and clinicians from the University and nationally.
Provides expertise to identify protocol problems, inform investigators of problems, or assist in problem resolution efforts, such as protocol revisions. Provides expertise to evaluate factors such as sample collection processes, data management plans, or potential subject risks.
Develops laboratory protocols and training on new techniques. Manage, analyze, and make recommendations on complex data sets for research.
Trains and mentors laboratory personnel.
Serves as a resource for collecting data and performing analysis. Facilitates and promotes a research project by providing scientific or intellectual information.
Creates first drafts for scientific writing and publications, including protocols and grants.
Performs other related work as needed.

Experience:
Experience utilizing Java, R, Python, C++, Clojure, bash programming.
Preferred Competencies
Annotation using biomedical ontologies.
Computational linguistics/natural language processing.
HTML and JavaScript for web page construction.
Working Conditions
