Position Summary:


We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Senior Research Scientist.

The Center for Human Genetics and Genomics is seeking an experienced bioinformatics programmer to join the deciphEHR team, which is pioneering genomic medicine at NYU Grossman School of Medicine. This role is a key part of a dynamic and rapidly growing project to develop software for optimizing and integrating large-scale genome sequence processing linked to EPIC EHR (electronic health records). Specifically, the individual will develop the data infrastructure for processing and querying large genomic datasets by our end users, as well as involved in cutting edge genomic medicine research. We seek and individual who is experienced in writing production grade bioinformatics pipelines with database/data warehouse integration experience, as well as have some experience in independent research.

Job Responsibilities:

Develop production genomic workflows on HPC as well as cloud environmentsDevelop a genomic data warehouse for efficient querying of large data using GlowPerform data processing and QC for genomic and clinical datasetsParticipate in data and software maintenance work for our teamDocument all required software code and experimentsExtract and manage multidimensional descriptive numeric and digital data from the EPIC EHR database for phenotype analysis

Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a PhD and 3 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master's degree in computer science/data science/bioinformatics/Statistics/Information Science or related technical disciplines.
Proven programming skills in Python, Bash/UNIX, R. Proficient in Git for version control.
At least one year experience with a big data technology such as Spark, Hadoop, etc.
At least 3 years of experience with a workflow language (WDL, Snake-make), Docker/Singularity, and HPC.
At least 4 years of experience with standard genomics bioinformatics tools (PLINK, GATK, etc).
Must be able to work in a demanding and dynamic team environment and work independently. Knowledge of algorithms and data-structures. Experience with Web-based application development languages such as HTML/JavaScript. Must demonstrate excellent communication skills, both oral and written, within the team and end users. Experience with the Glow framework for genomic variant ingestion to cloud/Spark/Hadoop is a big plus.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $42,900.00 - $100,000.00 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
