Senior Research Technician

Job Summary:

The Senior Research Technician for Residential R&D is responsible for assisting the Scientists/Fellows in the testing and development of new and innovative products and related technologies, usually sourced from external partners and arising from a wide range of technology disciplines. The Senior Research Technician is responsible for supporting current and future product development and testing, up to and including product code certifications. The individual may also assist in test roof installations and analysis of field data. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES: 

R&D:

(30%) Work under the direction of a Research Scientist or Principal Scientist

(10%) Design and build prototypes for testing product attributes 

(35%) Conduct Laboratory tests and interpret results and present data in report format

(15%) Analyze results and execute with minimal oversight 

(5%) Project planning and organization 

(5%) Maintain safe work practices and good housekeeping 

Actual percent allocation could change on the basis of ongoing projects, the above percentages are for demonstration purposes only.

COMPETENCIES: 

Critical/Required Competencies 

 Experienced with a variety of materials testing protocols 

Ability to analyze experimental data and use of statistical techniques 

Demonstrated experience with creative problem-solving 

Candidate should be able to collaborate and work in a team environment 

Motivated individual with good verbal and written communication skills 

Candidate needs to have good housekeeping skills & able to lift/move 25 lb packages/rolls

Candidate needs to be safety conscious and work in safe manner 

Level-Based Competencies

 Assist in all trial runs, field evaluations, and analysis of resulting data. 

Maintains laboratory equipment in an operable and calibrated condition 

Interacts with vendors to procure equipment, chemicals, and materials for department work

Ability to present meaningful results and unbiased conclusions orally and graphically to senior R&D management 

Composes clear written communications including memos and reports

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: 

Required Qualifications:

Associate Degree in Engineering, Applied or Physical Science with 5+ years related experience OR BS Degree Engineering, Applied or Physical Science (+Co-op/Intern or industry experience preferred) OR HS Diploma with 7+ years related experience

Background in materials testing, materials science, and/or new product development

Knowledge of basic engineering principles, basic materials science or chemistry

Ability to conduct experiments as per test protocols 

Working knowledge of Microsoft Office or G Suite 

 Should have good communication and interpersonal skills 

Needs to be a good team player 

Interacts with other R&D groups and participates in Laboratory Safety and Continuous Improvement Teams 

Maintains and audits through records in laboratory notebooks, analyzes test results, and issues project reports
