Senior Risk Transfer Consultant – Manchester

Mercer is looking for talented and ambitious pensions consultants who are keen to further their career, focused on consulting with clients. This is an opportunity to join our expanding Risk Transfer team, providing clients with advice on the journey to buy-in, broking the market and winding up schemes. We are looking for individuals with excellent communication and project management skills, adaptability, business acumen and a desire to be in front of clients, all underpinned by the required consulting skills and experience. 

What can you expect:

Bulk annuity broking and winding up pension schemes is fast becoming an increasingly important role as part of the run off of DB schemes and delivering service excellence in this area will be crucial to our overall delivery.

Becoming an integral member of the Risk Transfer team, this role will give you the opportunity to work on a wide range of clients at various stages of the buy-in journey including the post transaction buyout and wind up phases. 

You will work on a wide portfolio of clients and will be part of the team managing the project and leading on those client relationships. 

You will need to be able to able to learn quickly, think on your feet, be naturally inquisitive and most importantly be committed to giving our clients an excellent experience.

We will count on you to:

Work on a portfolio of your clients and consult on and project manage all aspects of the buyout and winding up journey, including assisting with the preparation and delivery of both day-to-day and strategic consulting advice.

Develop and prepare project plans and have input into setting budgets.

Project manage a portfolio of clients to help them achieve their buyout and winding up objective and co-ordinate all the relevant teams and client stakeholders.

Support the development of more junior colleagues.

What you need to have: 

A background in risk transfer, bulk annuity broking and pension scheme wind ups is preferable.

An understanding of the journey to buyout for pensions schemes including key considerations.

Excellent communication and consulting skills and a proven track record of client exposure.

A strong sense of team working.

A willingness to learn new skills and be adaptable in a changing environment.

Proven ability to build relationships with colleagues and clients.

Excellent project management and organisational abilities, in order to prioritise and complete work and meet project deadlines.

What makes you stand out:

This role would be suitable for someone who already has experience working with trustees and/or corporates on DB pensions within a consultancy role and has knowledge and experience of bulk annuity broking and winding up pension schemes.
