Job Summary:

Apply technical knowledge in support of personnel safety assurance, plant systems operability/reliability, which includes radiation protection and environmental-related activities; the installation of plant design changes, work planning and performance in radiation fields and the conduct of independent safe and reliable manner, in accordance with regulatory requirements.

Note: This is not an all-inclusive list of duties, and other tasks may be assigned as appropriate by RP Supervision. This is a multi-trade classification. The following is a list of Radiation Protection Organizational departments that have represented employees which are included in this job description are Radiation Protection Operations, Radiation Protection Instruments, and Radiological Health

Key Accountabilities  
• Perform recurring functions (including sampling, data collection, counting, data analysis and writing reports) for: ALARA/Dosimetry/Radiation Protection.
• Evaluate plant conditions, including the use, installation or calibration of various survey and test equipment and collecting, documenting, and organizing survey and test results; perform surveillances.
• Perform trend and problem analyses on the performance or plant systems, equipment or conditions; prepare detailed reports on plant processes or performance, noting when conditions are out of specified limits.
• Coordinate/prioritize scheduled and requested work for the group in support of plant operations; serve as lead tech or backshift group supervisor; administer on-the-job training and mentor other technicians.
• Support field implementation of 10CFR regulatory requirements in support of radiation protection or environmental mandates; generate and maintain quality and other regulatory required records.
• Develop and revise applicable discipline specific technical procedures and work instructions.
• Maintain laboratory supplies and equipment inventories and order replacement parts when necessary.
• As assigned, participate in Emergency Response Organization; respond to call-in's for emergent plant support.

Radiation Protection Operations


- Meet the experience and training criteria specific in ANSI N18.1 “American National Standard for Selection and Training of Nuclear Power Plant Personnel: for Radiation Protection Technicians.
- Evaluate station radiological conditions, perform and document radiological surveys, analysis of radiological contamination and airborne conditions
- Support the work of other station departments in radiological areas; perform job coverage in support of plant operation and maintenance, assuring RWP requirements are maintained
- Post and de-post Radiological hazards
- Operate dosimetry management system
- Respond to Electronic Dosimetry alarms, perform Dosimetry evaluations
- Perform DAC hour and Neutron dose tracking
- Control access to High Radiation, locked High Radiation, and Very High Radiation areas.
- Respond to radiation alarms and radiation events
- Provide access control to the RRA
- Support Radwaste shipping and processing
- Perform release of liquid and solid samples, tools, and equipment from RRA
- Respond to personnel contamination events, decontaminate, survey, document, and perform follow-ups as required
- Evaluate planned work and schedules to include radiological coordination (Fermi plan of the day (P.O.D.))
- Develop and maintain RWP’s and ALARA Reviews.
- Issue respiratory protection equipment
- Source Control for License and Exempt Radioactive Sources
- Set up and use of remote telemetry systems
- Operate robot used for LHRA and HRA entries
- Responsibility for upkeep of Emergency Kits (RERP, Ambulatory, etc.)

Radiation Protection Instrument


- Meet the experience and training criteria specific in ANSI N18.1 “American National Standard for Selection and Training of Nuclear Power Plant Personnel: for Radiation Protection Technicians
- Calibrate survey instruments used by qualified technicians
- Maintain/repair instruments used by qualified technicians
- Implement and maintain procedures for plant equipment (D1100 and D2100) as well as radiation monitoring equipment used by all technicians
- Calibrations of plant Process Radiation Monitors (D1100 and D2100 systems) including troubleshooting and repair
- Maintain remote telemetry systems
- Responsibility to maintain effluent sampling capabilities as a back up to Chemistry
- Repair and maintenance of plant camera equipment as well as installation in plant
- Maintenance of RP Instruments database
- Qualified to perform OJT/TPE of equipment
- Maintenance of robot used for LHRA and HRA entries
- Calibration, maintenance and repair of gamma spectroscopy systems and radiation counting equipment
- Set up and use or remote telemetry
- Operate robot used for LHRA and HRA entries
- Responsibility for upkeep of Emergency Kits (RERP, Ambulatory, etc.)

Radiological Health


- Meet the experience and training criteria specific in ANSI N18.1 “American National Standard for Selection and Training of Nuclear Power Plant Personnel: for Radiation Protection Technicians
- Personnel dosimetry issuance and exposure evaluations
- Process dosimetry dosimetry and perform exposure evaluations
- TLD Receipt and Testing inspection
- Maintain and operate TLD reader and TLD irradiator
- Collection, Processing and Reporting personnel dose records
- Various sampling as required per the Radiological Environmental Monitoring program
- Land use census for environmental monitoring
- Packaging and shipment of environmental samples
- Maintain OSHA mandated SCBA repair certifications
- Maintain emergency use and routine use respiratory protection equipment
- Perform quantitative respirator fit test
- Maintain breathing air equipment and cylinders
- Perform corporate SCBA maintenance/inspections
- Perform whole body counting and maintain the whole body counting equipment
- Bioassay sample collection and processing

 

QUALIFICATIONS

- Associates degree or 2 years technical credits toward a Bachelor's degree or HS/GED and relevant military training and experience or completion of an INPO approved Radiation Protection Technical Training Program.
- 5 years in nuclear power plant activities with 2 years of work experience as a radiation protection technician, and completion of 100% of on-the-job training and qualification requirements (specified in the established/approved progression schedule) for progression to the Sr. Technician.
- Coaches, counsels, trains, and directs or manages or schedules work flow and productivity measures.
- Knowledgeable of nuclear power plant operations and computerized applications and software programs.
- Working knowledge of environmental, nuclear and other applicable regulatory requirements.
- Working knowledge or measuring devices, mechanical equipment, precision and non-precision instruments and tools, rigging/lifting, shop equipment, blueprints/drawing/schematics, and business unit safe work practices.
- Analyzes and solves problems, evaluates trends and recommends corrective actions and improvements.
- Responds to requests for service and assistance; prioritizes tasks; handles information flow; treats others with respect and consideration; attentive to detail and accuracy; supports safety programs.
