We are seeking a creative, accomplished, and collaborative Protein Scientist to join Adaptive’s Antibody Discovery and Protein Science Team in Seattle, part of our Immune Medicine Division. This multidisciplinary group leverages Adaptive’s immune medicine platform, BCR and TCR discovery, and cutting-edge technology to develop differentiated, transformative therapeutics.

You will manage the scientific, strategic, and operational aspects of Protein Design and Production within the Antibody Discovery team. This includes designing, planning, and executing the generation and characterization of DNA and protein reagents essential for T cell and antibody-based therapies, as well as other novel therapeutic modalities. Collaboration is key to this role, involving close work with teams such as Computational Biology and Cellular Research & Innovation, as well as with external partners.

Key Responsibilities and Essential Functions

Design and purify high-quality recombinant proteins to support Antibody and TCR Discovery. Conduct hands-on lab research for biophysical characterization of antibodies and other proteins. Engage in antibody discovery and engineering using phage display. Support Protein Sciences needs across Antibody Discovery programs and other cross-functional projects. Provide strategic input into evaluating novel technologies and therapeutic modalities.

Position Requirements (Education, Experience, Other)

Required

Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Chemistry, Molecular Biology, Immunology, or related fields with 5+ years of experience, or a Master’s degree with 13+ years of experience. Strong scientific background in antibody discovery using immunization or display platforms. Proficiency in protein design for immunization campaigns and antibody screening/engineering. Expertise in recombinant protein expression systems, including mammalian, insect, and E. coli. Skilled in recombinant protein and antibody purification using the AKTA system (affinity, SEC, ion exchange). Experience with protein analytics (protein kinetics, epitope binning, stability) using BLI, HPLC, and DLS. Competency in molecular biology techniques such as cloning, DNA and RNA extraction, and B/T cell sequencing. Familiarity with molecular biology software (e.g., Geneious), molecular modeling (e.g., AlphaFold, Rosetta, Modeller), molecular visualization (e.g., PyMol), and data graphing (e.g., Prism). Ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative, cross-functional environment. Experience managing work with CROs. Excellent technical presentation and writing skills. Maintaining thorough records in an electronic lab notebook (e.g., Benchling). Ability to work independently, adapt to shifting priorities, manage multiple tasks with short lead times, and identify and implement solutions.

Preferred

Industry experience preferred. Experience in molecular structural modeling. Knowledge of antibody upstream and downstream process development.

Working Conditions

This position involves working in a laboratory and may involve the handling of human biological specimens.

Physical Requirements

This role will require repetitive motions such as pipetting and the ability to stand for extended periods of time while conducting lab work.

Compensation

Salary Range: $113,500 - $170,300

Adaptive’s posted compensation information includes a base salary (or hourly rate) range and summary of other available total compensation. The base salary range represents a minimum-to-maximum salary (or hourly rate) available to candidates upon extension of offer. Base salary is thoughtfully considered upon offer and is determined through multiple evaluation checks throughout the interview process, including: a candidate’s ability to meet minimum qualifications (skills/experience/education), a candidate’s ability to thoughtfully address preferred qualifications, current market conditions, and internal pay equity. Listed base salary is exclusive of bonus, commission, equity, differential pay, benefits, and other incentives.
