Job Description AbbVie Immunology is expanding its Immunology Discovery team in Cambridge, Massachusetts. We at Immunology Discovery are focused on identifying targets for the treatment of autoimmune and chronic inflammatory diseases using an interdisciplinary approach where we use high-throughput single cell biology experiments and cutting-edge computational approaches to study human disease derived samples and datasets. We are seeking a highly skilled and innovative Senior Scientist to lead the integration of spatial transcriptomics with single-cell transcriptomics and other omics data. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in computational biology and a passion for developing new analytical methods to deepen our understanding of tissue-specific cellular interactions, gene expression patterns, and immune system function. The Senior Scientist will also focus on cell-cell interaction analysis and longitudinal single-cell studies, contributing to cutting-edge research in drug discovery and precision medicine. The person will work in a multi-disciplinary team analyzing multi-omics datasets to derive insights into immunological diseases, identify novel therapeutic targets specific to patient cohorts and AbbVie pipeline drugs. In addition, the candidate will contribute to presentations at scientific conferences and publications of translational findings in peer reviewed journals, new drug applications and regulatory filings. If you are passionate about translating complex biological data into actionable insights and contributing to the advancement of personalized medicine, we encourage you to apply. This position will be based in Cambridge, Massachusetts (hybrid optional) and requires passion, attention to detail, prior hands-on experience, and teamwork. Key Responsibilities: 1. Single cell and Spatial Omics Integration: + Lead the integration of spatial omics data with single-cell RNA-seq and other omics platforms. + Standardize pipelines for spatial data processing, ensuring alignment and integration with existing single-cell data analysis workflows. + Develop innovative analytical approaches to map gene expression within tissue contexts, enabling deeper insights into cellular distribution and interactions within tissues. 2. Cell-Cell Interaction Analysis: + Develop and implement computational frameworks to study cell-cell interactions in immune cells and across different tissues. + Utilize analytical tools to analyze how immune cells communicate and collaborate within tissues and during immune responses. + Collaborate with immunologists to identify key interaction networks and their relevance to disease progression and therapeutic interventions. 3. Collaboration and Leadership: + Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams, including immunologists, bioinformaticians, and clinicians, to drive projects that integrate spatial and single-cell data. + Provide technical expertise and leadership in data integration efforts, helping to establish standards and best practices for omics data integration. + Mentor junior scientists and guide research efforts in cutting-edge spatial transcriptomics and multi-omics integration. 4. Benchmarking and Method Development: + Benchmark existing tools for spatial and single-cell data integration and develop new methodologies to improve data analysis robustness and scalability. + Optimize workflows for processing multi-omics data, ensuring reproducibility and high computational efficiency in large-scale studies. Qualifications Qualifications: + BS, MS, or PhD degree in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Systems Biology, or related field with typically 10-12+ (BS), 8-10+ (MS), or 0-4+ (PhD) years of experience. + Focus on spatial transcriptomics or single-cell data analysis. + Proven experience in analyzing and integrating spatial omics and single-cell RNA-seq data. + Expertise in multi-omics data integration, including proteomics and other high-dimensional datasets. + Strong programming skills (R, Python) and experience with bioinformatics tools. + A track record of developing or refining computational pipelines for complex data integration. + Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams. Preferred Qualifications: + Experience with proteomics (LC/MS), imaging mass cytometry (IMC), or other spatial omics platforms. + Knowledge of immune cell biology, particularly in tissue-specific contexts. + Strong publication record demonstrating expertise in multi-omics integration and spatial transcriptomics. The position will be filled at a level that aligns with the candidate's education, experience, and achievements. Senior Scientist I or Senior Scientist II.
