Job Description
AbbVie’s Discovery Biotherapeutics and Genetic Medicine (BGM) sector is seeking a highly motivated and experienced scientist to join its Protein Sciences Analytics Team. The Analytics team collaborates internally and across drug discovery teams to drive the discovery and engineering of innovative biologic and genetic medicine therapies within AbbVie’s pipeline. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to various Discovery Research Therapeutic Areas and projects by providing in-depth analytical and functional characterization of biologics, biopharmaceutical products, and genetic therapies, including complex protein antigens, monoclonal antibodies, multi-specifics, and genetic medicine platforms.
The candidate will be a highly motivated scientist with a proven track record in protein analytical and biophysical characterization, aimed at discerning protein critical quality attributes (physiochemical properties, post-translational modifications) and deciphering protein structure-function relationships. Experience with genetic medicine platforms and characterization is highly valued. The successful candidate must also possess superior verbal and written communication skills to clearly present scientific concepts and results to both scientific and non-scientific leaders. Key Responsibilities:
Work within multi-disciplinary project teams and act as a lead analytical and biophysical resource to guide development and advance the pipelineResolve key project challenges by effectively utilizing available analytical tools, information, and technical expertiseDevelop, optimize, and execute new analytical methods and techniques to characterize complex proteins/glycoproteins, antigens, and novel protein-based therapeuticsStrategically advance scientific expertise within the Analytics group by conceiving and executing novel scientific research, developing solutions to address project challenges, and providing novel insightsDemonstrate leadership by advising and sharing knowledge and expert opinions with peers and senior managementContribute to research that leads to peer-reviewed publications, reports, and external presentationsQualifications
Key Qualifications:
BS, MS, or PhD in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biochemistry, Biophysics, or a related field, with typically 12+ years (BS), 10+ years (MS), or 4+ years (PhD) years of post-graduate experience in a relevant setting—preferably within industryRobust analytical knowledge with demonstrated proficiency with various chromatographic techniques, capillary electrophoresis methodologies and in-depth biophysical characterizationExperience with routine mass spectrometry workflows, including peptide mapping, intact and subunit analysisExperience with process automation for analytical sample preparation and high throughput characterization is desiredExperience in coding/programing and developing automated data solutions is a plus.Significant research experience as demonstrated by a track record of publications, presentations, and scientific accomplishmentsSelf-motivated, hard-working, detail-oriented and able to work in a fast-paced team environment with demonstrated problem solving skillsHigh-quality written and oral communication skills and the ability to excel in a collaborative environmentKey Leadership Competencies:

The compensation range described below is the range of possible base pay compensation that the Company believes in good faith it will pay for this role at the time of this posting based on the job grade for this position.
