Senior Scientist - Medicinal Chemistry, Integrated Drug Discovery

Job overview

An accomplished synthetic organic and medicinal chemist, with a good track record of being a key project contributor, to design and synthesize small molecule targets.

Responsibilities

Design and synthesize small molecule targets to drive programs to clinical candidate nomination.Use reaction and reagent databases to select effective techniques/routes to maximize productivity and provide solutions to complex multi-step synthetic problems.Prepare and characterize high purity target compounds and intermediates to meet aggressive project timelines.Proficient in the use of analytical techniques for structural characterization and able to interpret complex NMR spectra.Register compounds in corporate database and maintain notebooks according to SOP.Champion new chemistry techniques, reagents and methodology in discovery chemistry and participate in group/lab responsibilities.Fully understand SAR around own work and project, and able to prioritize work proactively based on emerging data.Interpret biological data (DMPK, pharmacology, safety) to identify issues.Using knowledge and work experience, work independently, proactively and collaborate with other team members to design target compounds which address issues.Ability to learn from the literature and meetings and make decisions that require developing new options to solve moderately complex problems and move projects forward.Understand and articulate the scientific rationale of the project to other scientists.Provide formal and informal mentoring within project team and junior staff members.Determine the relevance of patent search results and assess the patentability of new targets. Assist with filing patent applications by reviewing claims and providing experimental data.Actively participate in medicinal chemistry discussions communicating own science in a clear and precise manner and raising issues which positively influence the direction of lead series.Communicate and interact with other staff members in a professional and courteous manner.Operate in the lab in a safe and efficient manner according to HSE guidelines and adhere to all mandatory company compliance requirements.Adapt to changes and challenges in a productive and professional manner.Act as an ambassador for the department and attend appropriate meetings to increase knowledge and stay current with journal and patent literature.

Requirements & Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree with minimum 8 years of relevant research experience in an academic or biopharmaceutical setting OR Master’s Degree with minimum 5 years of relevant research experience in an academic or biopharmaceutical setting OR PhD with minimum 3 years of relevant research experience in an academic or biopharmaceutical setting.Deep knowledge of organic chemistry and a growing understanding of medicinal chemistry principles.

Consistent record of publications, patents and external presentations and involvement in professional society.
