Senior Scientist / Project Manager
OVERVIEW Merrick is seeking an experienced Senior Scientist/Project Manager to join our team. This pivotal role requires the ability to lead broad range of science activities, including engagement planning; managing and utilizing staff resources to ensure team success; and supporting government counterparts. The successful candidate will provide direct support to Merrick clientele, ensuring seamless contract administration and effective project execution. Key responsibilities include managing cost and schedule; ensuring quality assurance; providing knowledge management; and demonstrating strong leadership, communication, collaboration/coordination skillsets. This is a hybrid/remote position and requires being at our client site in the Washington DC area at least two days a week. This position is not located at a Merrick office. Typical annual pay range for this position is $122,000.00 - $154,000.00. Pay offered may vary depending on job related knowledge, skills, and experience. WHAT YOU'LL DO A significant aspect of this role is interfacing with the government client to ensure all deliverables meet quality and schedule requirements. Key Responsibilities: Ensure Quality and Schedule Compliance: Oversee all deliverables to meet quality and schedule requirements. Department-Level Planning: Lead planning activities at the department level. Resource Management: Manage and utilize staff resources to ensure team success. Support Government Counterparts: Provide support to government counterparts. Financial Management: Handle financial aspects of projects. Schedule Management: Ensure projects are completed on time. Quality Assurance: Implement and maintain quality assurance processes. Knowledge Management: Oversee the management and dissemination of knowledge within the department. Leadership and Communication: Exhibit strong leadership and communication skills. Collaboration and Coordination: Foster collaboration and coordination among team members and stakeholders. Analytical Skills: Apply strong analytical skills to see the bigger picture while managing details. Task Tracking: Track formal and informal taskers effectively. Advisory and Assistance Services: Provide necessary advisory and assistance services. Partner with Leadership: Collaborate with client leadership and other counterparts. Reliable Source of Advice: Serve as a reliable source of advice and assistance REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Bachelors (B.A. or B.S.) degree in relevant science discipline (e.g., biology, public health, biochemistry). Minimum of five (5) years of experience in public health, biosecurity, or a related discipline and three plus (3+) years of project management, government acquisition, or similar experience. Experience and successful track record building effective relationship with clients and other stakeholders, understanding client’s requirements and meeting client expectations. Experience leading teams. Experience applying project management best practices in support of multiple ongoing projects while delivering high-quality outputs. Track record working in a matrixed environment, coordinating work across large, diverse teams, and being an effective and collaborative team member. Ability to work collaboratively and independently. Excellent communication, critical thinking, and problem solving skills. Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office tool suites. Flexibility/adaptability/suitability to work in a fast-paced environment. Ability to travel internationally. Must have SECRET clearance or higher. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS Masters (M.A. or M.S.) Degree. Ten (10) years of total of project management, government acquisition or similar experience. International experience. High containment laboratory experience.
