Senior Sepsis Consultant/Coordinator - McWilliams School of Biomedical Informatics

We are hiring immediately for a Senior Sepsis Consultant to join the UTHealth McWilliams School of Biomedical Informatics in Houston, TX 77030.  In this role, you will be coordinating the UT-MOST (Managing and Optimizing Sepsis Treatment) for the UT-Health Intelligence Platform. Ideal candidate for this position will have ED or ICU clinical experience, solid background in quality analytics/informatics, and performance improvement. This role will cover 8 hospitals within the six University of Texas health-related institutions and you will work with senior chief medical and quality officers, physicians, nurses and quality leaders throughout the system to improve sepsis outcomes.

Position Summary:

Sr. Sepsis Consultant, University of Texas System Health Intelligence Platform (UT-HIP) is responsible for successful implementation and ongoing quality improvement initiatives focused on optimizing patient care and helping clinicians, hospitals, and health systems in efforts to improve the hospital management and outcomes of sepsis. As a leader for UT-HIP the Sr. Sepsis Consultant collaborates with chief quality officers, and other quality improvement specialists including physicians, nurses, hospital quality directors, analysts, and other healthcare professionals to outline structural and procedural components that are associated with the multidisciplinary expertise required to support the care of patients with sepsis. The Sr. Sepsis Consultant facilitates effective communication and collaboration between all Health Related Institutions (HRIs) engaged with UT-HIP.

Position Key Accountabilities:

Essential Functions

Through effective leadership, coordinates the achievement of quality improvement initiatives related to sepsis to improve clinical outcomes and process measures, working with multi-disciplinary clinical, administrative, and operational leaders across the 6 UT System HRIs and affiliate partners. Leads multidisciplinary team to identify clinical best practice/innovations utilized across the UT System institutions, from the emergency departments, floors and Intensive Care Unit (ICU) environments. Designs data analytics tools for standardized reporting of treatment and process metrics. Leads multidisciplinary effort to establish assessment and evaluation tools to ensure UT System institutional compliance with evidence-based programs, including but not limited to CMS SEP-1 Bundle and the CDC Sepsis Core Elements. Establishes pathways for the effective sharing of educational programs shown to be effective for clinical management, identifies opportunities for cross-institutional content development, and spearheads initiatives to share best practices. Serves as an articulate ambassador and champion for quality improvement programs at state and national-level conferences and meetings. Maintains awareness of clinical research publications in major journals and conferences for evolving treatment innovations to be considered for implementation at the UT System institutions. Coordinates the research of best medical practices related to the quality improvement science being used by UT-HIP Teams. Works in collaboration with other HRI leaders, physician consultants, internal team members, and client hospital project engagement stakeholders to deploy established quality improvement strategies to achieve the deliverables of the engagement. Lead multidisciplinary team meetings to review project timeline, progress to date, and to update the direction of the engagement. Support UT-HIP development through conference presentations and/or publications and assist in the development/launch/implementation of new products and services. Performs other duties as assigned.

Certification/Skills:

Exceptional proven skills in leading quality improvement activities at a large academic medical center, preferably in emergency department or critical care departments. Demonstrated skills in data analytics and/or clinical informatics. RN-BC - Certified General Nursing Practice preferred

Minimum Education:

Bachelor's Degree in healthcare related field required Master's Degree Nursing or other healthcare discipline preferred

Minimum Experience:

5 years relevant experience related to clinical quality improvement in a hospital setting required 2 years direct experience leading quality improvement activities required

Physical Requirements:

Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects.
