About the role
We are looking for an experienced Electrical / Hardware Engineer to join our team based at RAF Benson as a Senior Simulator Engineer, working on advanced aviation simulators. In this role you will join a Team of 13 based at our Helicopter flight training school at RAF Benson. The team’s remit is to maintain and repair our 4 Helicopter Flight Simulators where we train RAF pilots to fly Chinook, Merlin and Puma Helicopters. Due to the unrivalled range of simulators at our training centres across the globe, your role will be technically varied, giving you the opportunity to work on a wide range of flight simulators, systems, and equipment to enhance your technical knowledge. This role will require you to work the rotating shifts as below;
Early Shift – Monday to Thursday 06:00 – 14:00 and Friday 06:00 – 13:00
Late Shift – Monday to Thursday 14:00 – 22:00 and Friday 13:00 – 20:00
Key tasksIdentifying, finding and solving problems in complex flight simulation systems
Checks updates and bug fixes at subsystem level with the test engineer/pilot
Support for the integration of data, updates, software and hardware and exchange of various assemblies
Calibration of instruments
Functional testing of systems
Detailed fault analysis and rectification or repair of the source of the fault / components
Learn and perform preventive maintenance tasks on the simulators and associated simulator systems.
Assist in diagnosing and correcting problems on the simulators and associated simulator systems
Utilize maintenance management systems to record and track maintenance activities
Perform pre-flight and post flight checks on all simulators.
Maintaining projector visual systems
Run automatic Qualification Test Guide (QTG)
Assist with refurbishment and hardware modifications.
Perform administrative tasks as required
About you
Ideally you will hold relevant Technical qualifications as well as have some work experience in an electronic, avionic, or technical field as a technician or similar
Strong experience in electrical engineering and hardware engineering
Experience of working with Software (you don’t need to write code)
Computer literate (PC and/or computer mainframe/architecture)
Some experience in soldering and circuit board repairs preferred
Some knowledge of Microsoft Office tools and suite
Practical, analytical mindset with great troubleshooting skills
High level of communication and teamwork skills
Experience of Hydraulics is welcome, but not a prerequisite
**Applicants must be able to obtain or transfer Security Clearance which the Company sponsors (applicants must have lived continuously in the UK for the past 5 years in order to obtain security clearance) or currently holds NATO SC level Security Clearance that can be transferred from overseas to the UK**
