Introduction to team
We are the DST (Distribution & Supply Tech) Pricing team responsible for the Lodging, Pricing and Availability service which powers millions of quotes per second. As an empowered engineering team, we are dedicated to building a robust and mission-critical delivery platform. Driving the future of DST Pricing across all Expedia Group brands, we leverage cutting-edge technologies such as Terraform and CloudFormation, built on AWS, to deliver innovative solutions at scale.
We design and optimize a robust platform that meets our engineering needs while enabling seamless deployment across multiple availability zones and regions. Currently, we manage thousands of instances and perform numerous daily deployments without impacting customers.
As a Senior Software Engineer, you take the lead in proposing, prototyping, designing, and implementing core components of the Pricing platform in collaboration with teams across the globe. Senior team members provide the thought leadership and technical expertise required to tackle large and complex challenges. By this stage in your career, you will have built and supported critical components of products and platforms at scale.
In this role, you will:
Develop scalable, reliable and highly-performant distributed systems with everything this entails (availability, observability, resiliency)Refine and build end-to-end architecture for development, deployment, testing, monitoring and support on the AWS platformMonitor platform performance, troubleshoot issues, and ensure high availability and reliabilityParticipate in resolution of production issues and lead efforts toward solutionsImplement infrastructure as code (IaC) using tools like TerraformContribute to vigilantly rewriting, refactoring, and perfecting codeDevelop and implement automation tools to streamline platform operationsManage AWS cloud infrastructure and optimize resource utilizationEnsure security best practices are followed in all aspects of the platformDevelop and maintain documentation for platform configurations, processes, and proceduresStay up-to-date with industry trends and emerging technologies to continuously improve our platformUse technologies such as Terraform, TeamCity, AWS, EC2, S3, Route 53, VPC, Lambda, Docker, Chef, Packer, Datadog, Consul, Scala, Kotlin
Experience and qualifications:
7+ years of experience leading technical designs, mentoring developers, and helping to drive engineering maturityProblem solver and an excellent engineer with deep understanding of DevOps, Cloud computing, and CI/CDPassionate about quality of work, you are persistent and principledA firm believer in infrastructure as code tools such as Terraform, Chef, etc.Programming experience in (one or more) languages: Scala, Kotlin, Java, Python, Go, etc.Experienced in solving distributed computing problems, you have worked with/on synchronous and asynchronous services in a microservices / distributed architecture platformExcellent problem-solving skills and attention to detailStrong communication and collaboration skillsThe total cash range for this position in Seattle is $173,000.00 to $242,500.00. Employees in this role have the potential to increase their pay up to $277,000.00, which is the top of the range, based on ongoing, demonstrated, and sustained performance in the role.
Starting pay for this role will vary based on multiple factors, including location, available budget, and an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience. Pay ranges may be modified in the future.
