About the roleAs part of the Empowering Insights & Reporting Pillar at Attentive, the Business Intelligence Engineering group transforms complex data into actionable insights and impactful reporting. We empower clients and internal teams with the metrics, analytics, reports, and visualizations needed to make informed decisions and shape strategies that drive meaningful growth.
As a Senior Software Engineer on the BI Reporting Team, you will collaborate with engineers, product managers, and designers to develop innovative applications that help marketers connect with consumers. Leveraging your expertise in backend development, you will build and maintain the systems powering Attentive’s client-facing reports, charts and dashboards. You will also play a key role in architecting and implementing the next iteration of our reporting platform.
Additionally, you’ll contribute to frontend development using frameworks like React, implementing new UI reports and features with guidance from senior frontend developers.What You’ll AccomplishYou are constantly improving the quality of the project you are working on, both via code contributions as well as long-term advocacy for larger-scale changesBuild amazing user experiences, taking responsibility for code quality, scalability, reliability and performanceYou understand how to partner with Product Management and Design to meet the user’s needs without sacrificing quality or accruing tech debtYou deeply loathe regressions, and take proactive steps to protect against them through a variety of testing techniquesBecome an SME for the team’s backend systems and mentor other engineers in growing their backend development and troubleshooting skillsYour ExpertiseYou have worked professionally with web technologies for 5+ years with experience on a single application long enough to see the consequences of your decisionsYou have strong backend development experience with either Java, Python or GoYou have junior to mid-level frontend development experience with technologies such as React and TypeScript You have a proven track record of building applications that maintain a high bar of qualityYou are excited by new technologies, but are conscious of choosing them for the right reasonsExcellent communication skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholdersYou have experience being on-call and respond quickly during an incident to troubleshoot and resolve issuesNice to HavesProven experience working with data, including SQL, data analysis, and data engineeringFamiliarity with AWS services, cloud infrastructure, and workflow orchestration tools like Airflow or TemporalPractical knowledge of DevOps practices and tools, including Docker and Kubernetes, for containerization and orchestrationWhat We UseOur infrastructure runs primarily in Kubernetes hosted in AWS’s EKSInfrastructure tooling includes Istio, Datadog, Terraform, CloudFlare, and HelmOur backend is Java / Spring Boot and Python microservices, built with Gradle, coupled with things like DynamoDB, Kinesis, AirFlow, Snowflake, Postgres, Planetscale, and Redis, hosted via AWSOur frontend is built with React and TypeScript, and uses best practices like GraphQL, Storybook, Radix UI, Vite, esbuild, and PlaywrightOur team supports stakeholders from Client Strategy, Product Management, Sales, Marketing, Finance, Engineering, Designers and the Leadership TeamWe believe our company will win in the long run through product innovation and data-driven decision-makingYou'll get competitive , from health & wellness to equity, to help you bring your best self to work.
