Remote work for individuals who reside outside Texas but within the United States and its territories will be considered and requires Central Office approval. Purpose

The Information Technology Services (ITS) Administrative Systems team is embarking on an exciting journey to modernize the mainframe environment in support of the UT’s goal to become the world's highest-impact public research university. Our organization seeks a forward-looking Senior Software Engineer who is grounded in mainframe technology but excited to build toward the future. With a long track record of stable management and processing of critical university data, we’re looking to expand the mainframe’s ability to integrate with third-party and custom-built applications. This position will be used to provide operational support for the existing mainframe infrastructure, while also evaluating and implementing new tools.

ResponsibilitiesWith guidance from senior staff, provide advanced operational support to include monitoring mainframe systems, providing customer service, investigating issues, and applying patches to software.Provide support and enhancements to mainframe developer tools such as Natural on the Web, Task Manager, and UTQA. Research and analyze technical problems. Design, develop, and document software solutions where maintainability and reduction of technical debt are primary considerations. Integrate systems with functionality interoperability. Participate in pilot projects and solution analyses to evaluate and implement new integration tools for university developers to access mainframe data and business logic. Communicate effectively with clients across campus. Other related functions as assigned.

Required QualificationsThree years of systems design, analysis and programming or developing mainframe applicationsProduction experience with configuration and optimization of enterprise-level services/applicationsDemonstrated ability to analyze, test, and debug complex codeDemonstration of strong customer-facing and listening skillsExcellent written and verbal communication skillsStrong organizational skills with attention to detailDemonstrated ability to design systems for high availability, security, manageability, reliability, and cost-effectivenessDemonstrated ability to work effectively, both independently and collaboratively, in a team-oriented environmentDemonstration of consistently meeting deadlines and following through with projects and assignments to completionDemonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks and projects simultaneously

Preferred QualificationsProduction experience administering a mainframe environment such as z/OSProduction experience developing applications in the UT Container Management Platform (CMP) or in other Kubernetes-based environmentsProduction experience developing in Natural Production experience interacting with AdabasProduction experience implementing applications and solutions on AWSKnowledge of PostgreSQL.Knowledge of Python, Django, PHP, or similar toolsetExperience with software build tools and version control

Salary Range

$110,000 + depending on qualifications
