Who will you be working with?  Reporting to the Software Engineering Manager. This role is to specify the design and interface with the Software Engineering Team to develop Real Time Embedded software applications for Wabtec Australia within a team environment.  To ensure all software requirements at Wabtec are delivered on a timely basis and within the budget.

Where is the position located? This is Permanent full-time position at Rydalmere, Sydney

What will your typical day look like?

Ensure software products are developed in accordance to the software requirement specifications;

Ensure all software implementations are following company procedures for the development of software using the company software tools (Surround, Test-Track etc.);

Reporting/discussing all technical issues with the Engineering Manager – Software;

Reviewing all engineering documents and coding and submitting to the Engineering Manager - Software for approval;

Preparing and Submitting Engineering Proposals to the Engineering Manager – Software for review and approval;

Develop high-quality software design and architecture;

Development of complex Embedded software and/or Real Time applications to run on various Operating System, that includes, QNX, Linux, Windows etc;

Identify, prioritize and execute tasks in the software development life cycle;

Develop tools and applications by producing clean, efficient code;

Automate tasks through appropriate tools and scripting; Peer technical review and Debug code;

Software verification and validation; Collaborate with internal teams and vendors to fix and improve products;

Document development phases and monitor systems; Ensure software is up-to-date with latest technologies;

Provide technical support to Wabtec customers and Wabtec internal staff;

Commitment to Quality, Safety and Environmental requirements;

and Any other duties directed by your manager.

What do we want to know about you?

Tertiary Degree in Bachelor of Engineering or Computer Science;

Competent and qualified in embedded C/C++ software, QNX, Windows with good understanding of UNIX and Linux operating systems;

Proven experience as a Senior Software Engineer;

Extensive experience in software development, scripting and project management;

Experience using system monitoring tools and automated testing frameworks;

7 to 10 or more years related experience in embedded systems, QNX and Windows;

Knowledge of selected programming languages (e.g. Python, C/C++) and the .NET Platform;

In-depth knowledge of relational databases (e.g. PostgreSQL, MySQL) and NoSQL databases (e.g. MongoDB);

Experienced in RS-232, RS-422, RS-485, wireless communications, network protocols and formal processes;

Familiarity with various operating systems (Linux, Mac OS, Windows, Mobile OSes); and

Effective communication skills Experience in software development for safety critical systems is desirable.
