As part of AE+P, the Microsoft Observability Platform and Experience engineering team is responsible for both the external and internal observability product offerings. These services enable customers to monitor, detect, troubleshoot, and mitigate issues with their services. Azure Monitor is our product family and includes Log Analytics, Application Insights, Container Insights, Hosted Prometheus, and more. Additionally, Log Analytics is the platform upon with Microsoft Sentinel is built. We have a >$1B dollar business that is growing rapidly. We also run some of the world’s highest scale observability services for Microsoft internally, processing over 1000PB of logs daily and tracking over 100 billion active metrics. Our aim is to enable autonomous, integrated systems infused with AI/ML to proactively measure, monitor, detect, alert, diagnose, and mitigate health issues before they impact customers.
As a senior software engineer on the telemetry ingestion pipeline, your responsibilities will include designing and implementing new features to support customer requirements as well as continuously improving the quality and reliability of services responsible for the delivery of customer data to end-user defined destinations. The pipeline teams support many of Microsoft’s largest external customers as well as most major Microsoft teams, including Windows, Office, Xbox, and Minecraft.

**Responsibilities**
+ Work with other teams across Observability to build and maintain services that run at extremely high-scale. This involves diagnosing and deploying fixes across deployments that span many regions
+ Design, test, and develop these services based on internal and external customer requirements
+ Optimize the movement of data at scale to iteratively reduce latency, improve the cost of running services, and improve performance against SLI/SLOs
+ Be a mentor to developers in your team and help them grow
**Qualifications**
**Required/Minimum Qualifications**
+ Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
+ OR equivalent experience.
+ 3+ years of experience on architecting, developing, deploying, and monitoring Distributed Systems.
+ 3+ years of CS fundamentals, experience in building scalable, secure, high-performance products and services.
+ 3+ years of technical design, problem solving and debugging skills, proven track record in shipping software on time, with high quality.
**Other Requirements:**
+ Cloud Background check: Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
+ Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
**Additional or Preferred Qualifications**
+ Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
+ OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
+ OR equivalent experience.
+ Knowledge of Microsoft Azure, AWS or similar cloud computing platforms
+ Experience creating, developing, delivering, deploying, and maintaining online services
+ Prior experience working on C# / .NET Core, or building services hosted on Service Fabric
+ Hands-on experience building and maintaining REST microservices or with Open Telemetry, Prometheus, Grafana, or related technologies
+ Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $117,200 - $229,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $153,600 - $250,200 per year.
