Senior Software Engineer (Backend, Connectivity)

The Connectivity team’s mission is to enable a 24/7 connection and interaction between the WHOOP wearable sensor, mobile apps, and the Cloud backend. The team collaborates closely with the Firmware, Software, and Data Science teams in order to provide seamless, quick, and performant communication to and from the hardware.
As a Senior Software Engineer on the Connectivity team, you will be responsible for the primary pipeline for sensor data uploaded from the mobile apps, including API definition, parsing, persistence, and dispatching for Cloud processing by data science and AI components. RESPONSIBILITIES:Design, build, release, and operate Cloud services that ingest, store, and dispatch large amounts of data on the critical path between sensor and insightsMigrate and improve systems for scale and complexityLeverage your experience with technologies including Java, Kafka, Postgres, S3, Redis, and CassandraParticipate in team estimation and milestone definition for project deliverables.Become a relied-upon expert in the Connectivity backend software domain. Participate in project design reviews, seeking and providing feedback on your own and others’ designsRepresent the perspective and needs of the Connectivity team in cross-functional guilds at WHOOP.QUALIFICATIONS:5+ years’ experience developing and maintaining scalable, cloud-native software solutions2+ years of experience Java development with microservicesDemonstrated experience identifying, diagnosing, and mitigating performance bottlenecksExperience designing interconnected services for scalability. Experience designing RESTful APIs and implementing them in JavaGreat collaborator and partner to other teams, balancing the needs of multiple technical stakeholdersStrong sense of ownership of your technical products – “you build it, you own it.”

This role is based in the WHOOP office located in Boston, MA. The successful candidate must be prepared to relocate if necessary to work out of the Boston, MA office.
