Senior Software Maintenance Engineer - Satellite Sustaining Engineering (Brno, Czech Republic)

**Job Summary**
The Red Hat Experience Engineering (XE) team is looking for a Senior Software Maintenance Engineer position to join us in the Czech Republic. In this role, you'll have the opportunity to work very closely with the Product Engineering team on the Red Hat Satellite product and the upstream project Foreman that Red Hat Satellite is based upon. Red Hat Satellite is the main Management solution for our Enterprise Linux customers to maintain their RHEL infrastructures. You will make sure that our solutions fulfill the highest possible enterprise quality, performance, usability, and supportability criteria, while collaborating with the distributed engineering teams.
To succeed in this role, you’ll need to be detail focused and mindful of following secure coding standards as you’ll be working on stable streams. You’ll work with older streams that have their own specifics, requiring troubleshooting of potential problems. Some of the work may be automated, so previous experience and willingness to work with automation tooling could save you time. In addition, you will need to be comfortable working with Ruby on Rails, Java Script based applications and Atlassian tools for Agile methodology.
**What you will do**
+ Work on Red Hat Satellite updates and be responsible for the updates in the extended streams
+ Backport selected security and other bug fixes into the extended release streams
+ Configure or backport tests, set up test environment, run tests, and verify fixes
+ Ensure the code is well tested including writing automated tests
+ Help with development and integration efforts of the test environment
+ Troubleshoot any potential issues, collaborate with the engineering team on resolving them
+ Collaborate with various teams (product engineering, quality engineering, program management, release engineering) in order to deliver updates in a timely manner and appropriate quality
+ Participate in product engineering team meetings
**What you will bring**
+ Interest in open source software and development
+ Intermediate knowledge of Linux and programming languages like Python, Ruby, Ruby on Rails, JavaScript frameworks
+ Familiarity with scripting and automated testing tools using Bash or Python
+ Experience with GitHub, GitLab or other collaborative code forges
+ Ability to develop and deploy software on Linux
+ Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with a global team
+ Solid written and verbal communication skills in English
+ Prior participation and active community member in open source software projects is a significant advantage
+ Creative, motivated, and capable of working both independently and as part of a globally distributed team
**The following are considered a plus**
+ Linux administration skills, experience with configuration management, network booting, provisioning and various hardware platforms
+ Experience with VMware or other hypervisor/cloud providers
+ Experience with relational databases like Postgres and MySQL
