Job Description:   

Designs, develops, builds, tests, and integrates complex EO/IR optical systems on airborne platforms. Interacts with device, hardware, and software design teams to assist in overall development of optical systems, specifying, selecting, and qualifying active and passive optical components, developing and benchmarking system performance models, developing and implementing test procedures and/or evaluating and selecting appropriate test instrumentation. Provides multi-discipline support to resolve technical issues associated with optical components, parts, products, or systems, testing of new and existing optical designs and documentation of changes through formal engineering change notification processes. May apply quantitative analysis in determining root cause of highly technical optical engineering problems and propose, develop, and implement novel solutions.

Essential Functions:

Support the alignment, calibration, and operation of EO/IR optical sensor platforms on the H-IIR and H-IIIR aircraft.Lead sensor platform operator for external airborne optical systems. Responsible for managing large aperture external optical platforms during test events.Ensuring optical systems are calibrated, aligned, focused, and properly configured for data collection activities.Modeling and improvement of existing optical systems using optical design software such as Zemax, Code V, FRED etc.Opto-mechanical design work to support configuration of modular optical systems with unique packaging and size constraints.Calibration, alignment, and characterization of complex optical systems using typical laboratory optical equipment such as collimator systems, interferometers, MTF benches, and monochromators.

Job Qualification Requirements:  

Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of 6 years of prior related experience. A degree in Optical Engineering, Physics, Engineering Physics, or Electrical Engineering is strongly preferred. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 4 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 10 years of prior related experience.

Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance which requires U.S. Citizenship is required.Experience with Zemax OpticStudio, Code V, FRED, or equivalent optical design software.Experience with mathematical programming and analysis tools such as Matlab, Mathematica, Python, MathCad, etc.Applicant must be willing to relocate to the Tulsa, OK area.Applicant must be able to obtain a Class III Flight Physical and successfully complete crew member flight training (water survival, altitude, egress). The essential physical requirements of the position will be reviewed with the applicant during the interview.

Preferred Additional Skills:

Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook)Experience with CAD software tools such as Solidworks, Siemens NX, or equivalent.Strong communication skills and ability to worth within complex multidisciplinary engineering teamsExperience with optical test equipment and techniques such as interferometry, spectrometry, MTF measurements, radiometric calibration, etc. Opto-mechanical design experience with complex optical systems
