As an asset class, the mutual fund platform at Schwab was the first and remains the largest offering for our valued clients. Over 17,000 mutual funds are offered today to clients of Schwab’s various businesses serving individual investors, registered investment advisors, retirement plans, and other institutional clients. The Mutual Fund Contracts Team (“Contracts”) within Custody and Asset Services manages contractual engagements negotiated with our fund partners. We collaborate directly with external third-party asset management firms and internal business partners to accomplish this critical work.

 

What you’ll do:

 

As a Senior Specialist on the Contracts, you will be responsible for mutual fund contractual administration processes with third party asset management firms. You will help develop and strengthen the team’s processes, systems, and critical talent to deliver positive outcomes for the platform and clients that we support. Key areas of focus will include, but are not limited to, the below items:

Support the development of team goals and objectives, making meaningful contributions toward the success of the team.Coordinate the completion of work by tracking deadlines and responsibilities.Proactively anticipate problems, identify error trends, and implement solutions to minimize impact on operational efficiency and service quality on the team.Reconciliation of contract data to systems of record including resolution of outstanding items.Assist with implementation of new enhancements, products, or systems withing the team, and identify and resolve problems with existing systems.Partner with leadership of Contracts to quickly build and maintain strong working relationships with a suite of colleagues across the Business Channels, Technology, Compliance, Offer, and Corporate Counsel.Directly engage to understand and align on shared business needs, desired outcomes, and current pain points.  Prepare and negotiate contracts in a high-volume environment. Act as an effective liaison between attorneys and business partners to address issues as they relate to contracts.Own decisions that require an in-depth knowledge of Schwab and the mutual fund industry more broadly. Demonstrate the ability to quickly research and obtain critical information that is required for decision-making.Advocate for the efficient flow of information and ensure that related systems deliver intuitive and natural interfaces.Communicate clearly and timely with internal and external business partners.Uncover, monitor, and actively manage risk.Facilitate team discussions or meetings. Required Qualifications:

Experience in the financial services or operational industry. Experience or exposure to working with contracts and other legal documents or similar, relatable work.Understanding of industry best practicesExcellent oral and written communication skills including the ability to translate and simplify complex industry and technical issues into concepts that are easily digested.A history of building and maintaining a strong network of productive personal relationships. Healthy planning and organizational abilities including the ability to effectively manage multiple priorities and long-running projects simultaneously, making necessary real-time adjustments.Exquisite attention to detail and experience with rigorous quality control methodologies with a focus on accuracy and an eye for continuous improvement. Advanced desktop software knowledge/skills (MS Word, Excel, Access and SharePoint).Strong analytical, problem-solving, and collaboration skills.  

Preferred Qualifications:

A strong knowledge of mutual funds.Vendor management experience.Exposure or hands-on experience with workflow automation systems.Education: Bachelor’s degree.Licenses:  Series 7 and 63.
