Senior SQL Database Administrator

Zelis is hiring a Senior SQL Database Administrator to implement and refine operational and business continuity processes such as performance tuning, availability groups, clustering, mirroring, backups and high availability. This role will provide key support in the production and development of Microsoft SQL Server databases, ensuring their performance, availability, recovery, maintain security and utilization, as well as the design, construction, and population of our new technology database schemas. 

You’ll work closely with a team of SQL Server DBA professionals, providing leadership in performance tuning. In addition, you’ll provide invaluable technical input in the design, architecting, maintaining, and securing of High Availability database systems, including on-prem and cloud environments.

Location and Workplace Flexibility: We have offices in Atlanta GA, Boston MA, Morristown NJ, Plano TX, St. Louis MO, St. Petersburg FL, and Hyderabad, India. In-office work and activities, if applicable, vary based on the work and team objectives in accordance with Company policies. 

Responsibilities:

Provide leadership in creating roadmaps and future state architecture of SQL Server platform collaborating with stake holders and business partners

Participate proactively in daily stand-up meetings, story grooming sessions, team retrospectives, suggesting and implementing improvements

Ensure performance, security, scalability and availability of enterprise MS SQL databases

Perform technical troubleshooting to diagnose, isolate and correct data and database issues

Research emerging trends and new technologies to identify potential improvements, anticipates issues and develops preventive measures

Collaborate with clients, service providers and peers to successfully deliver on business commitments

Design, implement and monitor disaster recovery plans as it pertains to the production database environment

Identify high-load SQL statements, gather performance-related data, and identify and resolve missing, unused, and indexes that need enhancements

Required Experience:

10+ years of experience in MSSQL Server (version 2019) in an enterprise level environment

5+ years of experience performance tuning experience

3+ years of experience with Atlassian products such as Jira and Confluence

3+ years of experience working with Azure environments

3+ years of experience with managing enterprise-level database environments supporting complex/critical applications

Strong TSQL and PowerShell knowledge; able to write and read as well as diagnose, develop and troubleshoot scripts

Willingness and ability to work on-call 1 out of every 5 weeks

Preferred Experience:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience

Experience within a Fortune 500 client environment

Excellent troubleshooting skills, inquisitiveness, and the ability to preemptively resolve problems

Strong people and thought leadership; ability to develop, mentor and coach others
