The Hartford currently has an in-house opportunity for a Senior Staff Attorney to litigate cases throughout the New York City area. This position is an ideal fit for an attorney with litigation experience in premises liability, motor-vehicle accidents and Labor Law actions, who wishes to practice in a collegial firm with other experienced litigators. The Senior Staff Attorney will strive to deliver the best possible results in pending litigation. In this position, the attorney reports to the Staff Legal Managing Attorney and the Assistant Managing Attorney. Our selected candidate shall demonstrate the ability to independently litigate lawsuits.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Independently handle lawsuits involving premises liability, motor-vehicle accidents and Labor Law actions.
- Prepare pleadings, written discovery, reports, motions and briefs in support
of defense strategies without supervision.
- Conduct legal research and independently develop and present defense
strategies on behalf of clients.
- Analyze substantive and procedural legal and factual issues.
- Provide effective and timely communications, legal advice and other
services to clients and claims customers on legal and factual issues in a
technology driven environment.
- Communicate with the court, witnesses, opposing counsel and co-counsel
in a manner consistent with established office procedures.
- Prompt, efficient and effective disposition of assigned cases.
- Attend continuing legal education seminars in order to maintain high level
of professional expertise.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum of seven (7) years of tort litigation experience. Trial experience strongly preferred.
- Juris Doctorate (JD) from an accredited law school and license to practice
in New York State.
- Knowledge of New York Supreme and Civil courts.
- Member in good standing of New York State Bar.
- Federal admission in SDNY and EDNY is a plus.
- Strong legal research and writing skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize duties and time are
essential.
- Strong communication, computer and technological skills, and the ability to
quickly leverage new software are required.

Compensation
The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:
