As a technical leader in bioinformatics and molecular diagnostics, you will drive pivotal initiatives while nurturing the next generation of scientific talent. You will pinpoint strategic opportunities that enhance team capabilities and business outcomes, establishing standards that inspire and guide your colleagues. Leveraging your extensive expertise in software development, regulatory compliance, molecular biology, and quality systems, you will serve as a trusted advisor to scientists throughout the organization.
Your contributions will play a pivotal role in shaping the direction and strategy for the development of new diagnostics and the expansion of production capabilities at Guardant. This initiative will ensure that Guardant remains a leader in the field, fostering a sustainable business model that enhances the lives of patients today and for years to come.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Partner with Technology Development to design and validate experimental protocols, from initial R&D through regulatory submissionArchitect and enhance bioinformatics algorithms that power both new diagnostic development and existing production workflowsLead technical initiatives hands-on while mentoring teams in building robust, scalable bioinformatics pipelinesDevelop data management strategies that optimize product performance and empower cross-team collaborationDrive strategic decisions by evaluating cost-benefit analyses for performance improvements and COGS reductionChampion innovation by staying current with cutting-edge sequencing technologies and computational methodsBuild consensus across scientific, quality, regulatory, and business teams to align priorities with user needsGuide complex projects from conception to completion, anticipating challenges and ensuring timely deliverySynthesize and communicate findings effectively, from internal presentations to regulatory submissions and peer-reviewed publicationsQualificationsPhD level with 10+ years related industry experience.Expert experience with data and statistical analysis with Python.Expert developing bioinformatics pipelines in one or more languages (e.g., Python, R, Java, C++, Rust). Comfortable with developing in cloud environments and using workflow managers.5+ years managing and troubleshooting genetic sequencing assays or testsStatistical design for experiments for development and validation of diagnostics in a regulated environment (e.g., CAP/CLIA, FDA)Ability to design well-tested software that interfaces in larger systems and is extensible by other team members and teamsProven mentor and leader of teams that have successfully developed and launched medical diagnosticsAdditional InformationHybrid Work Model: At Guardant Health, we have defined days for in-person/onsite collaboration and work-from-home days for individual-focused time. All U.S. employees who live within 50 miles of a Guardant facility will be required to be onsite on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. We have found aligning our scheduled in-office days allows our teams to do the best work and creates the focused thinking time our innovative work requires. For positions based in Palo Alto, CA or Redwood City, CA, the base salary range for this full-time position is $173,600 to $234,300. The range does not include benefits, and if applicable, bonus, commission, or equity.
Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including, but not limited to, job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. If you are selected to move forward, the recruiting team will provide details specific to the factors above.
Employee may be required to lift routine office supplies and use office equipment. Majority of the work is performed in a desk/office environment; however, there may be exposure to high noise levels, fumes, and biohazard material in the laboratory environment. Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
