ROLE SUMMARY:
The role of the Senior Storage Consultant is a customer facing service operations position in Hitachi Vantara’s Managed Services division. The Senior Storage Consultant works as part of a L3 operations team responsible for the delivery of Storage as a Service (StaaS) to a specific client based on agreed SLAs, maintaining a high level of customer satisfaction.

The Senior Storage Consultant will be involved in daily operations, including Change Management, Capacity Management and complex incident and problem resolution.

He/She will apply advanced subject matter knowledge to solve complex technical issues and is regarded as a subject matter expert.

The role also provides expertise and technical guidance to functional project teams and participates in cross-functional initiatives where Storage expertise is needed.

Mentoring/training junior staff members where required.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Act as a Senior Storage Consultant within a L3 Support team with aspects of Solutions/Architect and working closely with Engineering and Vendor Support functions.
• Provision, configure, maintain and troubleshoot multiple SAN platforms, distributed across the world.
• Identify and implement improvements to enhance, optimise and reduce the cost of the SAN storage infrastructure, making proactive recommendations to the Service Delivery Management Team. This will include, but not be limited to, areas of capacity, performance, availability, stability, cost and support roadmaps.
• Perform periodic capacity and performance planning of the SAN storage infrastructure and inform the Service Delivery Management Team of key findings and recommendations.
• Respond to and resolve SAN and Fabric storage-related incidents, managing all necessary communication with other technical teams and the management team.
• Translate engineering and security standards to deliver low level design documents and large and medium-scale SAN deployments.
• Take ownership of and perform life cycle management activities such as code and firmware upgrades.
• Support auditory, regulatory and risk and compliance initiatives that contain deliverables related to the SAN service.
• Assist the Project Team as a SAN Subject Matter Expert with respect to Solution Design and Transition of Services from Project to Operations.
• Provide On-Call support on a defined rotation.

Qualifications and key technical skills:
• Minimum of 7 years’ experience in Hitachi SAN technology.
• Bachelor’s degree in a computer science related discipline, or equivalent industry experience.
• Significant experience in Brocade / Cisco Fabric
• The individual will be expected to have a good knowledge of core IT protocols and systems (virtualisation, servers, networks, storage, databases, data centres, and security) and, ideally, have a system administration background. The role will demand the ability to learn new platforms and technologies and apply this knowledge to business needs.
• Understand the principles of backup and disaster recovery methodologies and how they relate to SAN environments.
• Fluent written and spoken English language.
