Mozal, SA is a benchmark for mega-projects in developing countries; located in Maputo Province, Mozal produces high-quality, primary aluminium for the domestic and export markets.

ABOUT THE ROLE:

 

This role is a permanent full-time position.

As a Senior Structural Engineer, you will be responsible for the data collection, inspection, evaluation, and remediation as well as asset life extension actions of infrastructure and buildings, particularly in the context of heavy industrial environments.

You will play a crucial role in ensuring the successful execution of designs, inspection and maintenance of structures at Mozal, ensuring compliance with industry standards and project specifications.

You will report to the Superintendent Governance and Technical Stewardship.

 

Other key responsibilities include, but aren’t limited to:

• Ensure that all your team members go home safe and well every day; • Ensure that material risks are identified, and related critical controls are implemented and are effective; • Review management of changes for changes done in the plant; • Maintain and issue current and accurate engineering standards, specifications, procedures and drawings for the specific area in line with associated document management standards; • Provide technical expertise on the blueprint, including validate blueprints resulting from the projects; • Civil infrastructure and building condition assessments; • Author and review technical reports; • Lead the preparation of repair designs and specifications; • Site inspection, testing and analysis; • Materials durability assessments and planning; • Provide inputs to asset maintenance strategies; • Perform asset condition assessments and defect management for structures; • Lead structural design tasks independently, with a particular focus on structures, ensuring strict adherence to design specifications, standards; • Review existing designs and provide recommendations for improvements. Revise drawings based on feedback and project changes; • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, designers, and other stakeholders to develop and refine design solutions;

 

ABOUT YOU:

 

You will have experience and demonstrate capability in the following:

• Minimum of 10-15 years of experience working with structures, preferably in the Aluminium smelting or heavy industrial sector; • Proficient in CAD software, experience with 3D modelling and simulation tools is a plus; • Strong understanding of Structural design principles, materials, and fabrication processes relevant to Aluminium smelting; • Excellent attention to detail and the ability to produce accurate and high-quality work; • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment; • Knowledge of industry codes and standards such as SANS, ASME, API, ANSI, and ISO; • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team; • Fluent in Portuguese and English.

 

Qualifications for this role are:

• Relavent Degree or higher in Civil / Structural or Materials Engineering or a related field.
