ABOUT THE POSITION
Senior Structural Engineer – Vertical Structures | Hybrid
In this position, you would serve an important lead role in the planning, analysis, design, and detailing of new building structures and existing building renovation, with a current focus on transportation-related buildings such as rail and transit stations, parking facilities, and highway and railroad overbuilds. The ideal candidate should possess a “can-do” attitude, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and an ability to work independently as well as with a team in a dynamic, fast-paced, and fun environment. The position includes significant opportunities for personal and professional development and growth within VHB’s emerging building design practice in New York and New Jersey.
Responsibilities
Manages, develops, organizes, and implements structural planning, analysis, preliminary and final design document preparation for transportation related building structuresProject scoping and developmentSupervises and mentors team members in the development of design plans, technical oversight, specifications, design calculations, load ratings, cost estimates, reports, final bid packages, etc. Provides technical oversight and review of structural designs.Monitors of project budgets and schedulesAssists with proposals and presentations for rail/transit pursuitsSkills & Abilities
Extensive knowledge of concepts, practices, and procedures in structural engineering Must possess strong technical skills with knowledge of various building structural systems and codesExcellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skillsDemonstrates excellence in verbal presentations and technical writing Team oriented with strong capability to work independently Robust technical and critical thinking skills Strong project management skills Proactive and self-motived, with excellent attention to detail and qualityAbility to lead and collaborate with a team of staff working remotelyEnthusiasm to learn, seek out opportunities, and take responsibilityMotivated to mentor junior staffStrong organizational and time management skillsProficiency in the use of structural engineering and BIM software such as STAAD.pro, RISA 3D, PCA Design Software, RAM Steel, Tekla, MathCAD, Revit, Microstation, and AutoCADQualifications
Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering required, master’s degree preferred (may substitute for 1 year of experience)8-11 years of structural engineering experience required; 11+ years preferredLicensed PE (Professional Engineer) required, SE a strong plusExperience with renovations and new construction preferredExperience working on projects owned and operated by transit agencies such as MTA, Amtrak, and/or NJ Transit NYCT station experience preferredFamiliarity with Design-Build and Design-Bid-Build project deliveryOSHA 30 Construction certification preferredOur best estimate of the salary range for this position located in New York City is $123,000-165,000. The final compensation will be based on a variety of factors such as individual qualifications, education, and experience.
