Senior Supervisor of Food Safety & Quality
**Job Description** **Job Title:** Sr. Supervisor Food Safety & Quality **Location:** Mid Atlantic **Department:** Quality Assurance **Position Summary** : Responsible for developing, managing, implementing, and maintaining the food safety and quality (FSQ) monitoring programs for Wawa suppliers including key partner suppliers in the Mid Atlantic. Partners with suppliers to design and implement process controls resulting in improved conformance to Wawa operating standards and product specifications, including food categories representing the highest level of risk. Provides QA leadership during cross-functional strategic planning for Mid-Atlantic supply chain enhancement to support store growth. Establishes and develops effective relationships with key partner suppliers to ensure compliance of products and service to all regulatory and Wawa food safety and quality standards. Supports significant product incidents through the recall, withdrawal and crisis management programs. May oversee or support other FSQ programs as needed. **Principal Duties:** + Implement Quality Monitoring Program and partner with key internal stakeholders to improve the quality of our products and add new requirements into the supplier contracts as needed. Partner with suppliers to build internal and external programs and to allow for expansion across all markets and all critical products. Provide strategic insight to internal partners to enhance store operations by implementing new standards upstream to better serve our stores and customers. + Develop, communicate, and execute FSQ monitoring programs in partnership with suppliers, store operations, and other departments. Design and write programs and procedures for FSQ monitoring. Organize and monitor program testing and modify as needed. Roll out programs that provide for data sharing and product matching for redundant suppliers. + Oversee the development of a centralized source of data for the FSQ monitoring program. Leverage existing systems when needed or facilitate the research of a new system to support product quality. Develop and manage the analytics and data reporting for internal and external reports including the proper cadence and level of information by audience. + Manage the specification compliance for food products consistent with supplier agreements to reduce variation, improve product consistency, and enhance customer experience. Implement quality review for new products with key partners during specification development and test runs. Use knowledge and expertise to identify potential process challenges and work with supplier to mitigate before product launch. + Provide QA leadership during the development process for product initiatives from test to commercialization by partnering with cross functional stakeholders to assure FSQ excellence and drive business success. + Develop and provide accurate statistical reporting as needed to Supplier QA and Wawa Marketing and Supply Chain teams. Analyze all data and identify trends, assignable causes, and opportunities for targeted improvement initiatives. + Manage QA audit process of Wawa Fresh Channel suppliers across different markets to support the Supplier Management program. Approve or reject supplier facilities based on audit findings. Provide report to suppliers and internal partners. + Collaborate with internal partners to develop and implement a store survey focused on product quality to improve awareness of product performance at store level. Leverage existing systems including EHACCP and/or FSRA to add product quality checks in the field. Initiate improvement efforts using quality check data and store level feedback. + Provide QA leadership during cross-functional strategic planning for supplier manufacturing facilities to ensure that products meet food safety and quality (FSQ) standards and drive continuous improvement. Review FSQA, GMP audits and quality test reports from incoming ingredients, work in progress, and finished products generated by direct reports. Utilize FSQ expertise and discernment skills to identify opportunities for improvement. Partner with supplier’s quality assurance teams to develop and implement FSQ improvement plans. + Utilize and trend data from suppliers, customers, and stores. Identify and respond to customer, store, and internally reported product FSQ issues or concerns for areas of responsibility. Investigate complaints, obtain samples when needed, communicate issues to Supplier QA, and update Service Now and RiskMaster. Develop appropriate and effective corrective action by working cross functionally with supplier leadership. Complete corrective action request documentation and provide updates to internal partners. + Partner with Supplier QA to perform root cause analysis as needed and to drive continuous improvement to production practices, sanitation, associate hygiene, product testing, and FSQ programs to ensure ongoing compliance to Wawa standards and specifications. Leverage knowledge of supplier processes to drive timely implementation of corrective actions as needed. + Manage direct reports and establish environment for group inclusion and diverse thinking in order to find new solutions and improve efficiencies. Manage the work, development and performance of the QA Continuous Improvement Lead and Data Analyst, Food Safety and Quality. + Support the Sr. Manager, QA Supply Chain as needed through execution of the product recall/withdrawal process according to the Wawa Food Safety Crisis and Management Response Plan. May oversee or support other FSQ programs as needed. **Essential Functions:** + Ability to work well individually as well as in a team environment + Excellent oral and written communication skills + Excellent customer service skills + Ability to work with little or no supervision + Detail oriented and excellent organizational skills + Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills + Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and independently + Excellent interpersonal skills + Proven self-starter with demonstrated ability to make decisions + Excellent leadership skills + Ability to travel up to 30% of the time between supplier locations nationally and potentially internationally + Ability to work in cold conditions in a food production environment + Willing to work a flexible schedule that includes weekend and evening on-call duty + When prioritizing work, considers strategic company vision/goals, ensuring alignment with department objectives **Basic Requirements** **:** + Bachelor’s Degree in Food Science, Biology or related field + 7 years or more of Quality Assurance experience in food manufacturing facility + Minimum 3 years of management experience preferred + Experience with large scale project management preferred + Strong knowledge of quality system design for high risk ready to eat foods and fruit/vegetable processing preferred + ASQ Certification in related disciplines preferred + Experience with GSFI standards, supplier certification, and food safety auditing + Strong computer skills including Microsoft products such as Access and Excel + Strong knowledge of Wawa’s food products a plus + Demonstrated knowledge of Wawa’s Supply Chain a plus Wawa will provide reasonable accommodation to complete an application upon request, consistent with applicable law.
