**Position Overview:**
This role is for a Senior Systems Administrator with an emphasis on Microsoft Windows Server operating system as well as experience with Linux OS systems administration. This position will join the Platform Services team in SLAC IT which is responsible for the support of core infrastructure services and enterprise applications that are to the research and administration of this DOE National Lab. Key activities include configuration management of multiuser servers, systems security, networking, and related storage and backup administration of managed servers and related systems. These systems will be run both on premise and often in IaaS cloud providers as well.
The role requires writing and changing scripts to perform normal build-management automations, integrations and log analysis. The Platforms team uses a variety of commercial and custom tools to manage and monitor server health, storage infrastructure, backups, security conditions, and related integrations. The Senior Systems Administrator uses opensource and commercial software to administer and monitor system and service health.
Under limited supervision, this position will be responsible to administer and maintain systems and applications, provide help to users, manage the underlying operating system, and request vendor support, as appropriate. The position will also be responsible for planning and executing updates to dependent applications and ensure all systems are maintained in a secure manner. The Senior System Administrator will collaborate with other IT Infrastructure team members and other technical staff at SLAC to improve processes, tooling, systems design and interoperability across the lab. This position will also help to evaluate new products or technologies for deployment.
SLAC is a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) laboratory operated by Stanford University and based in Menlo Park, CA. As a SLAC staff, this position is an employee of Stanford University.
**Your specific responsibilities include:**
+ With minimal guidance, design, install, configure, optimize, and maintain integrity of highly complex operating system platforms support. Develop long-term strategic and capacity utilization plans.
+ Provide support and implementation of automated system process execution and configuration management.
+ Design, develop, install, and maintain operating systems, utilities, and applications software on computing systems.
+ Identify and resolve system emergencies to minimize significant impact to the integrity of user data and systems.
+ Design, configure, implement, and maintain system security strategies, policies, and procedures.
+ Establish software/hardware standards and systems policies and procedures.
+ Engage in long-term strategic planning regarding systems development and integration.
+ Conceptualize and implement systems within broad technical or structural frameworks.
+ Perform capacity planning for system configuration, software services, network services, load distribution, and service interrelationships among computer systems.
+ Act as a technical expert or lead for local computer system administration.
+ Act as project leader on large-scale computing projects in which strong technical, directional, and personal leadership is necessary; assign and oversee the work of other system administrators as needed.
+ Manage vendor relationships and cost-effective hardware and software maintenance agreements with vendors.
**To be successful in this position you will bring:**
+ Bachelor's degree and eight years of relevant experience, or a combination of education and relevant experience.
+ Experience with complex multi-system platforms and vendors with particular emphasis on Microsoft Windows Server and Active Directory technologies.
+ Project experience with implementation and configuration of system deployment in cloud IaaS, with emphasis on Amazon Web Services and Azure.
+ Experience in support of virtualized environments such as VMware, AWS, Azure.
+ Experience developing/implementing a business continuation and disaster recovery plan.
+ Proven ability to develop appropriate plans to meet computing needs.
+ Competency in programing languages and scripting as required for enterprise systems administration, automation, and operational monitoring.
+ Proven ability to lead and work on large/complex system deployment projects in a team environment.
+ Advanced knowledge of security trends and best practices.

The expected pay range for this position is $148,162 - $168,602 per annum. SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory/Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs.
