The Opportunity
The Senior Systems Engineer, Electro-Mechanical works out of our Dallas, TX location in Transfusion Medicine. The key to successful treatment and full recovery is often fast, accurate diagnosis. Abbott’s life-changing tests and diagnostic tools provide insights that enable smarter, faster decisions and transform the way the world is managing health. Our pioneering technology spans the world of healthcare operations — with medical diagnostic instruments, tests, automation and informatics solutions for hospitals, reference labs, blood centers, emergency departments, physician offices and clinics.
The Systems Engineering team is responsible for conducting root cause investigations of system level issues, including remote customer issue analysis/troubleshooting and in lab issue recreation/resolution. The Systems Engineering team also supports the risk management process and provide system level subject matter expertise for potential design changes. As the Senior Systems Engineer, Electro-Mechanical you’ll lead Systems Engineering activities within the electro-mechanical engineering arena.
What You’ll Work On
Analyze and develop system requirements, user needs, and system designs, support system evaluation activities.
Lead special studies or experiments to improve system quality and define new components, products, or processes.
Lead large cross-functional investigation teams by determining root cause of system level issues and proposing possible solutions; communicate progress and conclusions to senior management and stakeholders.
Perform testing to assess performance, reliability, and system interactions against design specifications.
Provide input into the development of manufacturing processes and controls.
Support hardware risk management process.
Promote collaboration with various Engineering departments/disciplines (e.g., design, test, software, technology) through knowledge of the interaction between departments/disciplines and how their products/processes affect one another and impact non-engineering processes (e.g., Operations, Logistics, Business, Quality).
Champion products and services that meet the highest technical and quality standards, regulatory requirements, and company policies/processes. Embrace first-time quality as a way of life – not accepting, creating, or passing any defects and speaking up.
Required Qualifications
Bachelors degree in an Engineering or closely related discipline with five or more years progressive work experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Computer Science, Systems Engineering) or related Engineering/Scientific Field.
8 + years of relevant, well-rounded, technical experience.
Proven Knowledge of System Engineering principles or concepts with a focus/background in electrical engineering.
Demonstrated experience supporting complex system and risk analysis.
Hands-on experience in a laboratory environment.
Demonstrated ability analyzing and utilizing data to make decisions.
Experience executing and creating test plans for complex systems.
Demonstrated success in technical proficiency, creativity, and independent thought.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Knowledge of external regulations and standards affecting IVDs and Biologics. Experience in a highly regulated environment.
Prior medical device experience: electro-mechanical, chemical, or biochemical technologies as they pertain to the design, integration, evaluation, and commercialization of diagnostic systems.

The base pay for this position is $83,000.00 – $166,000.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
