About the Job:
The Sr. Systems Engineer will design, implement, administer, troubleshoot and develop IBM Power system resources to meet company and departmental goals and standards for availability, capacity and security. The primary responsibility for this role will be to maximize the uptime and security of IBM Power systems and their interfaces to the user community, provide for ongoing maintenance and provide tier[1]two/ three support to help resolve client issues. The Sr. Systems Engineer will work closely on related projects, and infrastructure changes. The Sr. Systems Engineer will manage short- and long-term projects related to IBM i server systems and related software.
A day in the life, what you’ll be doing:
· Maintain and support Power systems in an enterprise environment.
· Deep knowledge of IBM ios 7.3
· Administer applications such as Websphere, PowerTech, Fortra Robot suite, Network Security, Precisely Assure Security File Transfer, Flash Copy/ BRMS, LMi and other IBM applications as needed.
· Familiarity with automation tools such as Robot scheduler.
· Create and maintain accurate and current procedural documentation
· Test, evaluate and implement software patches, updates and upgrades
· Provide level two/ three support for the Data Center Operations Team and programming team · Review activity logs for suspicious activity
· Configure and support copper and fiber networking on the IBM Power systems.
· Assist in administration of IBM Storwize v5000 SAN
· Perform both performance-related problem determination and long-term capacity planning.
· Oversee hardware problem diagnosis and resolution.
· Plan for and implement hardware and software upgrades.
· Use SQL to provide reporting, diagnose programming issues, and maintain the systems.
· Support and administer flash copy software used to back up the production partitions.
· Manage the Hardware Management Console, including security, updates, and configuration.
· Administer VIOS, to support partitioned systems.
· Track and manage software and hardware maintenance contracts.
· Diagnose and support the single sign on environment.
· Maintain and support the use of NFS and drive mappings
· Assist in planning and management the annual disaster recovery test.
What it takes to Join:
· In-depth knowledge of IBM power system hardware and operating system in a partitioned environment, with at least five years of practical IBM i server experience
· Strong troubleshooting, interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
· Appropriate temperament and knowledge to assist with on-call user support
· IBM Certified System Administrator – System i
· IBM Certified Advanced Technical Expert - System i Solutions
Salary Range: $100,838-$112,844
