Department Summary:
MITRE's Nuclear Weapon Systems and C2 Platforms Department is seeking a senior systems engineer to provide expertise and support to the most critical challenges our sponsors and their missions face. We provide technical guidance through rigorous modeling, simulation, and analytical methods to enhance program decision making and risk management. Our main sponsors possess the policy, warfighting, organizational, and program responsibilities within the Air Force Nuclear Enterprise.
Roles & Responsibilities:
As a team member, you will collaborate with technical team members from a wide variety of fields to provide technical leadership within our sponsor organizations to ensure delivery of a safe, reliable, and effective weapon system. You will gain deep insights into the government acquisition policy and process, while providing technical ownership of the program baseline to the sponsor.
Key Responsibilities Include:
+ Identification of program risks and development of mitigation plans to include identification of potential risk reduction activities through prototyping, modeling, simulation and analysis.
+ Requirements derivation and decomposition to support iterative Systems Requirements Review (SRR), Weapon System Specification (WSS) generation, and lower-level interface specifications as part of the Engineering and Manufacturing Development (EMD) phase.
+ Ability to work across multiple technical domains which may include: cyber, digital engineering, communication and networking, modeling, mechanical engineering, and airworthiness.
+ Cultivate strong, trusted working relationships with our Air Force Nuclear Enterprise sponsors by understanding their needs and helping them solve their toughest problems.
+ Contribute to technical products that enable data-driven decisions and result in impactful mission outcomes.
+ Identify and bring to bear specialty engineering disciplines to ensure requirements support successful development, fielding, and sustainment of the weapon system.
+ Clearly and concisely communicate highly technical analyses and recommendations to sponsors and partners in written and verbal products
Basic Qualifications:
+ Typically requires a minimum of 5 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related STEM field; or 3 years and Master’s degree, or a PhD with relevant experience who can immediately contribute at this job step; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.
+ In-depth knowledge and experience working in DoD acquisition programs.
+ Ability to work both independently and in a dynamic and collaborative team environment
+ Possess an active DoD Secret clearance with eligibility to obtain a Top Secret clearance.
+ This position has an on-site requirement of 5 days a week on-site
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Extensive in-depth experience in providing technical input to appropriate acquisition phases and events to include SRR, System Functional Review (SFR), Preliminary Design Review (PDR), and Critical Design Review (CDR).
+ Excellent interpersonal and communications skills for interaction with sponsors, project leaders, team members, and other government agencies.
+ Expertise in cybersecurity methods, technology, and best practices
