As a Senior Tax Manager - U.S. Domestic in the Planning & Technical group, you will be responsible for U.S. income tax planning and analysis related to Caterpillar’s U.S. subsidiaries. The position is part of a planning team that works with business partners within and outside the Global Tax department in providing U.S. tax advice and solutions for complex projects and/or initiatives while balancing strategic goals, appropriate understanding of detail, and the ability to execute.
This position will have in depth knowledge of U.S. federal income tax principles, including Subchapter C, consolidated return rules, audit, M&A, and depreciation/amortization. The role is responsible for providing expert tax advice to business partners, analyzing and implementing planning strategies, and reviewing material U.S. federal compliance positions and/or material book to tax adjustments.
**What You Will Do:**
+ Provide specific and actionable guidance on tax issues involved in internal structural and transactional planning. Identify tax-beneficial opportunities and implement work plans to optimize enterprise results. Work with internal and external resources to create, implement and manage complex tax positions, integrating both U.S. and foreign consequences. Provide U.S. tax advice and education to managers in Global Tax, Corporate Accounting, Corporate Treasury, business units, and subsidiaries.
+ Monitor, analyze, and determine financial impact of critical proposed tax laws and regulations to Caterpillar. Assist with communications to company leadership and external coalitions to influence the course of legislation.
+ Guide resolution to federal and state income tax authority inquiries on material and complex topics through advice to managers and analysts with consideration of enterprise impact.
+ Provide expert counsel on complex and comprehensive issues through knowledge of tax technical rules. Review material U.S. federal tax positions or results for both provision and compliance.
+ Advise on M&A organizational and operational structures including implementation, integration, and post-acquisition/divestiture consulting.
+ Work with counterparts to guide the development, maintenance, and updating of control procedures and policies related to U.S. domestic tax positions.
**What You Have:**
+ **Education/Experience:** Requires a Bachelor’s Degree and 7+ years of progressively responsible U.S. income tax related experience, including consolidated group rules, Subchapter C, tax audit responses, developing transaction plans, and quantifying tax impacts.
+ **Tax Management:** Strong knowledge of U.S. income tax provisions and how they interact together with the ability to advise, develop policies and controls, and monitor tax reporting requirements and case law. Also requires an understanding of compliance processes, accounting for income taxes and provision processes, and data sources.
+ **Producing Results:** Ensures time, resources, and actions are focused on priorities and can ensure needed work completed timely with a holistic view of the tax lifecycle. Guides staff and tax managers to complete analysis at the appropriate level needed.
+ **Influencing through Expertise:** Leads teams to effectively achieve objectives, which includes both intra-department and multi-functional teams. Analyzes gaps within organization and provides appropriate solutions while sharing expertise on critical issues. Effectively communicates through concise writing and presentation skills tailored to audience.
+ **P** **r** **ob** **l** **e** **m** **S** **ol** **vi** **n** **g** **:** Ability to apply knowledge of problem solving appropriately to diverse situations. Analyzes and synthesizes information and devises alternative resolution strategies by applying tax technical rules to Caterpillar facts.
**Top Candidates Will Also Have:**
+ Expertise in depreciation/amortization book-to-tax differences, compensation tax adjustments, accounting methods, state income tax, and tax modeling
+ Demonstrate high levels of initiative, good judgment, and superior communication skills
+ Collaborative and team-oriented personality with the ability to build and foster relationships throughout the organization
+ Understanding of accounting and business processes
+ Knowledge of M365
**Additional Details** :
+ The preferred location is **Peoria, IL** or **Irving, TX,** but willing to consider fully remote as well
+ Domestic relocation is available for those who qualify

**Summary Pay Range:**
$156,000.00 - $234,000.00
