Position Objective:
This position supports the Deputy Director PTC Office in all aspects of the documentation, tracking design, and development, ensuring the system maintains the operation and configuration of the PTC Office subsystem. The Office subsystem includes the Primary Control Center (PCC), Backup Control Center (BCC) , and Remote Office Workstation locations. The PTC Office is a critical component of the system designed to ensure compliance with the 2008 Rail Safety Act. This position will provide the interface between the PTC System Integrator (SI) and Metro-North during system development. Upon completion of the PTC project, this position will be responsible for the operation, maintenance, and continued engineering development of the PTC Office.
Responsibilities:
+ Work with the System Administrator and the PTC Office Team to review and document all development of the Office components, ensuring that requirements are met. Gain a full understanding of the functions of the PTC Office subsystem, its network , and the Software and Data Maintenance Facility (SDMF) used to develop, test, document, configure, maintain, and modify the system.
+ Work with the System Administrator, the PTC Wayside Team, M of E Engineering , and with MNR Operations to ensure the timely and complete development and Configuration of all the required functions of the PTC Office and Network Management System (NMS).
+ Support Software and Data Maintenance Facility (SDMF) and Configuration Management activities by reviewing technical specifications, and material specifications and documenting all modifications and changes .
+ Aid the System Administrator, the PTC Office Team , and field personnel regarding the design and configuration status of deployed PTC Office, Remote, Wayside , and Onboard equipment.
+ Support the Metro-North Safety Program through the execution of required activities and policies associated with personnel working along or on the railroad right-of-way and other locations.
Required Qualifications:
Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
+ Strong oral and written communication skills.
+ Strong Knowledge of routing protocols (i.e., EIGRP and OSPF) .
+ Strong knowledge of the configuration management hardware and software development and lifecycle process.
+ Strong working Knowledge of network configuration and design .
+ Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office and/or comparable applications.
+ Strong working knowledge of LAN and WAN technologies and routing protocols and Ethernet and TCP/IP network design and deployment .
+ Ability to implement and manage service and equipment database inventory.
+ Strong analytical skills to analyze new and existing products, equipment , and/or procedures.
+ Must be able to work in a high-profile/high-pressure environment.
+ Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with internal departments and outside agencies.
+ Must be able to implement and participate in Metro-North Railroad’s Priority One Safety Program.
+ 24-hour 7-day availability required.
+ Valid driver’s license.
Required Education and Experience:
+ Bachelor’s degree in, Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Cybersecurity , or related field. Demonstrated equivalent experience, education, and or technical credentials to include an additional four (4) years of related experience may be considered in place of a degree.
+ Minimum of five (5) years experience in installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of WAN’s, LAN’s, and associated network systems.
+ Minimum three (3) years of progressively responsible experience reviewing technical specifications, and material specifications
The following is/are preferred, but other satisfactory combinations of relevant experience, education, and/or technical credentials will be considered:
+ CCNA
+ CCNP
+ MCSE

This position is safety-sensitive and subject to toxicological testing.

Employees driving company vehicles must complete defensive driver training once every three years for current MNR drivers; or within 180 days of hire or transfer for an employee entering an authorized driving position.
