Akron General's Emergency Department is a Level 1 trauma center that offers the technology, expertise, and staffing to treat all injuries regardless of severity. **A caregiver in this position works 7:00pm - 7:30am.**
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
+ Prepare units, patient rooms, and patient beds for receiving patient admission, returning surgical patients, transfer, or emergencies.
+ Provide and document assigned care, such as bathing, changing/refreshing bed linens, dressing/undressing, feeding, etc.
+ Take and document the patient's temperature, pulse, respirations, blood pressure, pulse oximetry, weight, and height.
+ Perform treatment procedures, such as venous blood draws, enemas, application of ice and heat packs, non-sterile compresses, skin preps, setting up oxygen equipment, bed scale weights, setting up overhead trapeze and Buck's traction.
+ Perform EKGs and urinary catheterization in the ED only.
+ Assist with pre-operative and post-operative care, such as turning and positioning patients with proper body mechanics, applying/utilizing special equipment and ambulating the patient as directed in a safe, prescribed manner.
+ Assist and accompany patients during admission, transfer and discharge.
+ Perform hourly safety rounds, anticipate patient needs and respond to patient call lights promptly.
+ Document patient care in the electronic medical record.
+ Complete ongoing competency requirements, education programs and mandatory training to maintain certification and/or licensure.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
+ High school diploma or GED.
+ Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through American Heart Association (AHA) or obtain certification during new hire period.
+ Prior job or educational experience providing basic computer knowledge and skills.
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
+ State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA).
+ One year of recent acute care experience.
