Senior Tool and Die Machinist - Day Shift

SENIOR TOOL AND DIE MACHINIST - TACOMA 

DAY SHIFT - M-F - 6am -2:30pm 

$33.00 - $40.00 per hour 

 

 

Summary of Position:

The Machinist Tool Maker designs and constructs metal/PVC/fiberglass fabrication dies and custom equipment to perform a broad array of fabrications.

 

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

Analyze project requirements to determine optimal system solutions and define appropriate control configurations.

Write software for control devices.

Design and program PLCs using Allen-Bradley controllers.

Design and program Human Machine Interfaces (HMI).

Develop and review project related drawings and documentation packages such as wiring diagrams and electrical schematics.

Create methods for testing and measuring sensors, instrumentation software and components.

Conduct thorough testing and checkout of products ready to be shipped, including validation of control sequence.

Interpret complicated fabrication drawings and part drawings.

Fabricate, measure, fit, and pin intricate and precision pieces together.

Fabricate, fit, and pin complicated die assemblies together.

Troubleshoot and resolve problems in the building of slap/piercing dies and custom equipment.

Form grind cutting tools.

Operate conventional machine shop equipment to include lathes, mills, surface grinders, tool grinders, saws, heat treat ovens and inspection equipment.

Work with hand-working metals using files, stones, and abrasives.

Inspect finished parts using various gauging equipment.

Work with tolerancing and tolerance stacking.

Job planning.

Routine maintenance on machines.

 

Experience Required:

Experience working with Allen Bradley PLCs and associated software.

Experience with HMI design and programming.

Experience working with schematics and machine wiring.

Ability to solve complex technical problems.

Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.

5+ years machine shop including tool and die making experience, using materials such as metals, fiberglass and PVC.

Experience and ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings and part drawings and convert to tools, dies, equipment.

 

Education/Licenses/Certification/Formal Training:

Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering and/or or Associate’s Degree in Electrical Engineering Technology are pluses. Commensurate experience may be substituted for degree. National Instruments LabView experience is a plus!

Level of Supervision:

No direct supervision, but dotted line relationship with Location Service Managers

 

Essential Abilities:

Must read, write and understand the English language

Competence in MS Office Suite modules

 

Work Environment:

Work performed primarily indoors in a shop environment with regular exposure to production environment.

Physical Requirements:

· Prolonged standing and periodically lifting, stretching and twisting

· Prolonged sitting and terminal use

· May be required to lift up to 50 lbs. periodically

· Hand dexterity and strength

· Work outside normal hours may be required, including some weekends
