The Opportunity
Arup’s Planning team are involved in a variety of nationally significant infrastructure schemes across energy and transport sectors including; solar, wind, hydrogen, carbon capture and storage, electricity transmission, nuclear, high speed rail, major highway schemes and airport expansion projects. To meet the needs of our clients and projects we are looking to strengthen our planning team to guide development proposals and support applications for consent for major infrastructure schemes through the decision-making and post-decision processes.
We are looking for Senior level town planners with experience or a passion for the delivery of consents for major infrastructure schemes. Training and mentoring will be available to enable progression into more senior technical or management roles. You will join the Cities, Planning and Design Group, which includes a national town planning team and in the Midlands comprises a team of 16 planners across offices in Birmingham, Nottingham and Sheffield. Our offices are all in city centre locations and easily accessible by public transport and you will be welcome to work in any of Arup’s offices in addition to remotely from home You will report to Associate or Associate Director team members, oversee the work of more junior team members and collaborate with Arup’s multi-disciplinary teams across our 15 offices in the UK.
A Senior Planner is responsible for supporting the Team Leader and Associates within the planning team on a diverse range of planning projects. A Senior Planner will take a key role in preparing consent applications, and often take responsibility for a specific aspect of a project (e.g. drafting a report and meeting with clients or key stakeholders) and for smaller projects will be responsible for the delivery of the project in accordance with a client’s objectives, timescales and budget.

Requirements:
BSc in Town Planning or similar. You may be a Member of the Royal Town Planning Institute (MRTPI). A background in town planning - ideally within private sector working and infrastructure projects. Experience of drafting planning reports/strategies for clients, managing the preparation of planning applications and data analysis. Depth and breath of planning consent and policy experience across a range of sectors. Understanding of commercial frameworks.Not ready to apply just yet or have some questions?
