We are looking to recruit a Senior Planner with experience in policy and/or strategic planning. You will play a role in managing projects, engaging directly with clients and stakeholders to secure successful planning outcomes. Work portfolios are managed to ensure that all staff experience a breadth and depth of project opportunities including plan-making at all scales and may also include some development management, energy and infrastructure projects.  You will be based in our flagship Aldgate Tower Office working alongside multi-disciplinary teams. We are based minutes from Spitalfields Market in the heart of East London. Flexible working arrangements would apply, with the ability to work both from home and the Aldgate Office. We envisage that the role would involve a mix of office-based working and working from home for the foreseeable future.

Here’s what you’ll do:

Planning Strategy and Policy Development

Provide specific technical expertise, including planning research and analysis, often working within a team of planners, urban designers, landscape architects, engineers, and others to contribute to planning policy projects and strategies, including local plan evidence base.

Project Coordination and Management

Lead the management of small and medium sized projects and contribute to the successful management of larger projects, with some responsibility for budget, programme and general project performance. Ensure compliance with the company’s Quality Assurance policies and procedures.

Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement

Provide effective representation for the organisation, developing and managing relationships with clients, local authorities and other stakeholders through project work and through attendance at conferences and other networking events.Sharing technical knowledge and excellence.

Business Development and Operations

Support others in the team to identify and pursue business development opportunities and support the growth of the business through new and repeat clients. Contribute to proposals and qualification documents to secure new commissions.Participate in the successful operation and management of the town planning team

This includes the full range of evidence base studies, secondments, critical friend and sustainability appraisals, where we are market leaders.Strategic Masterplans - We have masterplanned new Garden Communities totalling almost 100,000 homes (with current examples including Southern Manydown in Basingstoke and Naas North West Quadrant in Ireland). Our work continues to create places where people want to live and invest over the long term.Neighbourhood Planning - Since 2011, we have supported several hundred local communities with their neighbourhood plan making. We offer expertise across all aspects of the plan-making process - from scoping and robust evidence base production to stakeholder engagement, appraisal and option development to plan production, design, delivery, adoption, monitoring; as well as overall project and process management.

Qualifications

Here’s what we’re looking for:

Degree qualified in a relevant discipline (accredited to allow RPTI membership)Proven post-graduate experience in a town planning teamSound knowledge of UK Planning policy and legislation.Experience managing small and medium-sized projectsA hard working and highly motivated individual with excellent communication, presentation and report writing skills.Ability to work on your own initiative and under pressureClient focused with good interpersonal skills and collaborative approach with a high level of commitment to quality.Commercial awarenessMembership of the Royal Town Planning Institute, MRTPI (Full membership or eligible and on pathway to membership)
