We are seeking a smart, enthusiastic, driven, and experienced learning professional to train employees and teach leadership courses for Houston Public Works. The Senior Trainer prepares and delivers training courses at remote locations for water and wastewater utility personnel to increase their technical competence and skills. The candidate is a subject matter expert that has at least three (3) years of professional personnel experience involving training in a formal classroom setting and/or the development of curriculum and lesson plans for adult learners. The Senior Trainer can communicate course information in a relevant, and informed manner. The Senior Trainer will perform other job-related duties as assigned or required to promote a continuous improvement culture by identifying gaps and creating opportunities in learning. The instructor is expected to maintain their technical competence and skills to teach and train employees. RESPONSIBILITIES: A Learning and Development Senior Trainer: + Conducts all levels of front-end analysis (Needs Analysis, Learner Analysis, Task Analysis). + Formulate training plans and strategies for Adult-Based Learning and prepare and conduct training. + Utilizes Systems Approach to Training, ADDIE model, SAM and/or other curriculum development models. + Uses various levels of Bloom's taxonomy to construct learning objectives and Bloom Cognitive Domain to access higher and lower levels of learning. + Administers course post-testing and uses Kirkpatrick’s Evaluation Model or another industry standard model to evaluate training. + Travels to remote locations and provides classroom instruction across the City of Houston as assigned. + Ensures concerned parties, points of contacts, and students are contacted and notified of schedules, locations, and times + Ensures all training materials and training aids are prepared before class and secured and accounted for upon completion of the course + Follows approved curriculum course outline and performs all course exercises in the Instructor Guide + Ensures participants have achieved terminal objectives of the course + Provides on-site technical assistance and one-on-one training to operators of water & wastewater treatment plants to assist in the improvement of water quality and the public health + Assists the Training Manager/Coordinator with customer interactions + Provides the opportunity for participants to evaluate training + Maintains subject matter expertise on water related topics of instruction + Ensures completion and collection of student attendance rosters, registration forms, pre-test/post-test, course evaluations, and closes and gives credit in the Talent Management System (TMS) + Prepares class records and ensures that they are submitted timely at the conclusion of the training + Ensures class documentation is completed accurately and timely to division guidance. + Collaborates with the Learning & Development team to teach in house Leadership Academies. WORKING CONDITIONS The position involves routine walking, periods of sitting, and occasional stooping or bending. Occasional light lifting, such as three or four reams of papers or books (up to 40 pounds or equivalent weight) may be required. This is a Department of Houston Public Works Emergency Management position at the Tier III Level. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS Requires a Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Education, Personnel Management or a related field. EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS Three (3) years of professional personnel experience involving training in a formal classroom setting and/or the development of curriculum and lesson plans for adult learners is required. Substitution: Pertinent training experience on a professional level may be substituted for the above educational requirement on a year-for-year basis. LICENSE REQUIREMENTS None.
