About This Role
Dow Consumer Solutions has an exciting and rewarding opportunity leading the Performance Silicones TS&D teams in Japan with a focus on Elastomers for Mobility and Transportation. The role will be in Chiba Japan.
As Senior TS&D Leader, you will connect with customers and DCS cross functional teams to understand and balance innovation needs and partner with technical leaders to help develop and execute on strategies needed to support sustained growth across the different markets. You will be responsible for strengthening the Advanced Elastomer portfolio and incubating a healthy growth pipeline with other groups in DCS, Core R&D and other Dow businesses.
Responsibilities:
+ Provides supervision and leadership to the M&T TS&D regional organization team of scientists and technicians, which will involve multiple sub-markets cultivating a safe, inclusive and empowered team culture.
+ Manages all people processes for direct reports. Accountable for talent identification, attraction, development, promotion and retention within the department; creating a high performing team focused on innovation and delivery against organizational goals with strong alignment to individual strengths and career development needs.
+ Actively participate in the MMT- Management Market Teams of the represented sub-markets to develop a project portfolio and TS&D activities aligned with the future market and product line needs based on market insights, external megatrends and drivers including sustainability and regulatory initiatives.
+ Engage with operations, product directors, and quality to understand needs for 2nd source qualification, QN resolution, and operational efficiency in the region. Then coordinating with resources on the team to balance innovation, customer needs, and proactive improvements for the division.
+ Identifies, champions and charters projects in support of strategic objectives.
+ Champions the development of a strong IP portfolio within the department.
+ Collaborates with Process R&D to commercialize new products that meet market needs and generate value for our customers and Dow.
+ Engage in front-end innovation and research such as Core R&D projects.
+ Networks and collaborates with other business and technical groups within Dow, other functions, and external resources (universities, research institutes) to support existing projects and generate and exploit new ideas and opportunities.
+ Champions a strong safety & inclusion culture, drives EH&S best practices for the department and beyond, creates initiatives that reinforce best safety practices, habits, and behaviors.
+ Nurtures a collaborative, transparent, barrier-free, psychologically safe and professionally rewarding culture of innovation that aligns scientific excellence with team and individual success to develop impactful, industry-leading people, technology and products.
Qualifications:
+ Degree, Masters or PhD. in a related technical field such as Chemistry, Chemical Eng., Polymer Science, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering.
+ Extensive experience within the R&D function with a strong focus on R&D functional excellence and people management experience
+ A strong track record demonstrating process & project management skills and tangible success in implementing business strategies and tactics
+ Honed skills in building and maintaining a high-performance team, change management and in eliminating barriers that hinder progress.
+ Ability to influence across organizational & functional boundaries, business acumen and strong networking & communication skills.
+ Technically strong, driven, will challenge and collaborate with team and other functions.
+ Use of scientific method, statistical analysis and decision making, use of modern research tools (DoE, etc.)
+ Mechanically inclined or strong willingness to learn application (injection molding, extrusion, etc.) with chemical/engineering/materials background.
+ Strong prioritization skills – good understanding of what is required to achieve success.
+ Excellent follow up, ownership mindset, positive attitude, desire to acknowledge and overcome challenges
