Senior Underwriter, Commercial Property and Casualty

Victor Insurance Managers Inc., a subsidiary of Marsh, is the world's oldest and largest underwriting manager of specialty insurance, professional liability, and risk management programs. Our expertise lies in evaluating risks, implementing program marketing, developing, and executing risk management activities, and servicing accounts on behalf of our insurance company partners. We then distribute these products through our distribution network of licensed brokers.

We are seeking a talented individual to join our Property & Casualty Binding Authority team at Victor. This role will be based in Columbia, SC but we are open to Bethesda, MD, Broomfield, CO, or New York City. This is a hybrid role that has a requirement of working at least three days a week in the office.

Senior Underwriter, Commercial Property and Casualty

We will count on you to:

Underwrite and price mid-size and large accounts in accordance with Victor’s underwriting standards.

Act as the escalation point for more junior underwriters.  Act with increased underwriting authority.

Meet annual production goals set for the team within required risk metrics.

Demonstrate a proficient understanding of policy forms and the Victor property and casualty products’ underwriting authority guidelines to ensure adherence to and profitability within the book.

Gather market data for new markets, products, and/or segments and works with the product and leadership team to identify new production opportunities and competitor activity.

Mentor and train less experienced underwriting personnel on underwriting guidelines, forms, market conditions, competitors, and relationship building.

Establish, support and maintain strong business relationships with business partners.

Effectively negotiate and sell on Victor’s behalf.

What you need to have:

BA degree in insurance, business, or related field preferred or equivalent work experience.

Minimum 3-7 years of progressive underwriting experience within the commercial property and casualty insurance industry preferred.

Strong mathematical and analytical aptitude; critical thinking

Proven underwriting, sales, and agency management skills.

What makes you stand out?

8+ years of progressive underwriting experience with agency management experience within the commercial insurance industry, E&S preferred.

Ability to underwrite more complex accounts, including knowledge of commercial property forms, pricing, and rating methodology, modeling, and valuation tools.

AU or CPCU certification in progress or received.

Strong verbal and written communication including formal and informal presentation skills.

Strong interpersonal skills for interacting with team members.

The applicable base salary range for this role is $85,200 to $181,500.

The base pay offered will be determined on factors such as experience, skills, training, location, certifications, education, and any applicable minimum wage requirements. Decisions will be determined on a case-by-case basis. In addition to the base salary, this position may be eligible for performance-based incentives.
